here's a listing of the parts/items I have in this build.... so far. remember, this does not include the McGaughy's drop spindles and the bolt-in "c" I had installed last year.

I hope this helps you guys out. I'll update my list as I go, but as of now it's fairly complete.

yeah, I've been a lazy a$$ lately.

as a matter of fact diesel, .... I should have some pics tomorrow.

figured out the tank location and mounts. been grinding and drilling on a "c" channel most of the day. need to notch the frame for the tank tomorrow, show you what I mean when I get some good pics.

Cool. I ask because I priced my static drop at about $400, and I'm guessing the additional premium would be worth it to go to air ride instead. In either case I'll be using CPP drop spindles so... I guess I should order those

I can tell you that I will have approximately $800 in the entire system (not including the spindles and c notch).

you may be able to do it cheaper if you hit swap meets and watch Ebay and CL closely!

first is a pic for Chris. see, I can be unorganized!

okay, so here's my tank install. it's a 9 port, 5 gallon AVS, aluminum tank.

I removed the rear-most cross member. I then picked up a 33" piece of 4" c-channel to mount in it's place. the tank is then mounted to the channel with the ports firing forward. I also notched the frame so I could drop the tank without removing the bed.

I now need to figure out the placement of the compressor and valves. should be pretty straightforward from here on out. thinking of a welded box forward of the tank so the valves and compressor will be shielded from rock kickup. oh well, need to start the design phase on that sooooon.

Seeing that pic makes me wish that i didnt have a gas tank back there. I had to cram everything up under the frame of the drivers side.

Going to look really nice.

Isn't there ample space for a tank where gas "saddle tanks" usually go?

EDIT: duh, stepside != fleetside, LWB != SWB

I guess I have it easy in at least one respect.

yep, I have a space issue with the stepside bed.

thinking the compressor mount will be the back of the tank mount beam. it is so freaking stout, you could hang the truck up by it.

I like the air tank mounting, good work. I also like the radius you put on the corners of your cuts, nice attention to detail, looks much more professional.

Just read this thread. You have covered what I am think of doing to my 65. I need to finish the brakes and motor/trans install first. I feel the same way about laying frame. I intend to drive mine everyday, so if a bag fails, I would not be scrapping on the pavement..

I like the looks of the FJ wheels with the stock paint. What size tire are you running?

got a bit of work done today.

had a fabricator friend of mine weld a 10" x 6" x .25" thick plate to the bottom of the c channel for my compressor mount.

speaking of which, after looking at compressor, I noticed that it could be mounted differently than the piston firing up and down. so I rotated the mounts so that it sits lower. when mounting it this way, I used longer #10 stainless steel socket head cap screws, loctite blue, and locknuts. I don't believe it's going anywhere soon.......

then I mounted it using the same hardware; stainless steel #10 shcs and locknuts.

I came across a deal for 600 bucks with 4 bags 8 valves and two viair 450 compressors but im very nervous about getting it because I havent seen anyone show the wiring. You have mentioned relays and other things that I personally would find it hard to do. Could you show some of that?

Don't be afraid to wire, it's pretty easy and there are plenty of people here to give advice. Wire is very cheap, as well.
