Re: Freddy's '52
Thanks for your input, I'm gonna wait till I actually get it outside to make a decision on the bumper. You know how things look different when you can really step back and think it over. If I do anything it will be tuck it like was mentioned, I hope to get the plastic tank cover at the junkyard or paint it black to conceal it better.
RB, question....is there a way to hook power up the truck (without actually connecting the battery) that would trip itself if something was wrong for my maiden attempt to crank it? I am SOOOOOOOO scared that something is going to fry, and I'm ready to drive this baby without having something major put up a roadblock. TIA |

Re: Freddy's '52
i think they make gadgets for that they send 12 volts at a verry low amperage through the system and shuts down at the first sighn of trouble maibe you could lend a regulated labratory powersuply they do about the same you can turn up the power slowly get everything to light up without smoking the cables
you should do it in stages big powereaters are halogen lights and wipermotor indicator lights interiourlight dashboardlights radio (a normal headunit) electric antenna gps handsfree telephone and alarmsystem dont take as mush power the starter should be tried last on full power to get it to turn over , the relay doesnt take as mush but only aply for a short burst to hear it clicking or you might burn the fieldcoils in the starter because of the lack of amps another test you could do is put a ohmmeter on the batteryclamps and turn stuff on see if the ohms exeed the suspected values indicating a short . dont be realy scared if you measure resistance with everything turned of , the radio , clock and sumtimes the interiourlight (when the door or bootlid is open ) allways take a little current to find it you could systematicly unplug stuff , thats the best way to find a short too

watayaknow has some good advice. You might also consider an in line low amp circuit breaker like I have seen on a lot of 70-80 gm cars. or a very low amp fusible link. I have a power probe it allows me to power or ground circuits and has a breaker that trips if there is a problem. I bet you be fine you took your time on it. Joe

Re: Freddy's '52
Thanks for the input guys and encouragement. I kept all the fuse links from the Z28 power block and everything has a fuse either from the S10 fuse box or the Z28 underhood fuse box. And I have tried to double check each connection before I soldered them.
I went to the junkyard and retrieved the hard heater hoses from the Z28 (thankfully he still has the z after 2 years) and the EVAP cannister. Got the lines mounted last night and boy am I running out of room under the hood. |

More progress on the wiring Saturday and mounting of underhood relay/fuse block. Also got my hard line heater hose in place. Last night did a little bondo sanding. Looks like trip to ROD RUN is a bust since it won't be running in two weeks. Probably head down to Year One's first show of the year.

Re: Freddy's '52
Need some help guys. My wiper motor has only 2 wires coming off of it, neither a chassis ground, with a toggle switch control. I'm thinking that the motor is a 1 speed style (it's an autolite =I'm guessing old) the only wire lacking hooked up to the toggle is the supply. I want to hook it to the s10 wiper harness which has a wire for supply, low speed and hi speed. Any ideas how to hook it up.

Not sure, it does look like a Ford style wiper does it ground through the body of the wiper? I found this for an 84 ford truck the earliest I can get for a ford it does show the wiper grounds through the body. Joe

Re: Freddy's '52
SSR,
Great looking truck. I just joined today after reading multiple threads on this forum. Very, very good info on this forum, thanks to guys like you. I am in the planning stages of the S-10 frame swap myself, (well been planning for 2+ yrs) but the time has finally come to turn some wrenches. Will begin demolition in the upcoming weeks. I am curious to know a little more about the guage setup, does that seem like it is going to work properly, fuel sending unit and speedo?? It makes sense that it would. I guess you'll know after you fire it up and take it for a spin. Also what size tires are you running? And what wheel offset / spacers did you or are you using (you may have mentioned already). I will not be one of these that bugs you with the same old questions already answered on this thread and other threads, but these are really important for me. I have everything else kinda figured out in my mind, just hung up on offset and tire size. And after seeing what you did with the guages I fell in love with that. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah my truck will be vortec 4.3 / 18&20 combo / flat copper pearl. |

Re: Freddy's '52
Well I tried hooking up my wiper motor to the battery, nothing. So, I went to the junkyard today looking for a Chrysler mini van, found one and think it will work although it's motor sits in the middle of the cowl area. Then.....I spot a pontiac transport van, and its wipers wipe inside-out also. I'm going back to get its motor cause it is more offset to one side like ours are and the hook up should be the same or close to the S10 harness. I also found other items needed as well. Man I love junkyard hoping.

You might also consider Chevy Venture/Pontiac Montana/Olds Silhouette as I believe they also wipe from inside out. By the way, I just sent a pm with a question about your guage setup.

Re: Freddy's '52
Amen Brother, I have spent many a Saturday morning roaming through salvage yards (I like to call them salvage yards out of respect to some folks that take offense to being called "junk yards") I noticed a few weeks ago my wife's 2000 S10 blazer has a two speed rear wiper motor, Thadius(sp) has a cool set up for S10 blazer rear wipers but I think he might use the earlier S10 blazer 1 speed wiper. 98-200 something Jeeps also use a 2 speed rear wiper.

Re: Freddy's '52
Just to chime in, and hopefully give you a little heads up of what I went through in my search!
The original vacuum powered wipers work on a self-reversing setup, where the motor pivots (about 120-140 degrees), stops, then reverses its direction. The only motor I found that would repeat that was the ones from an early 90's S10 Blazer (not to say there isn't more out there), but it's what I found. If you're looking for a motor, this is something to watch closely. Most modern wipers work parallel to each other and the AD trucks are opposed (they both go from center, up and outwards). This is due to the wiper motor working in a single directional rotation. You will need to find a motor with a secondary gearbox in it to get the reversing rotation and then work out the wiper arm setup. Please, if you do find a motor like this, that is two speed, LET ME KNOW! As I would love a dual speed as well! (I may be able to find a way to make it worth your while if I can make it work, as I already have a two speed delay wiper setup figured out) Best of luck! Ted.

I am not 100% sure it what you are looking for but my wifes 2000 s10 blazer rear wiper is two speed it is similar in shape and size to the earlier blazer rear wiper motor.

I had my buddy at the local chevy dealer fax me over the layout for the transport wiper assembly. Check it out and see what you guys think.

Re: Freddy's '52
Hadn't had much time to work lately, but last night got my brake switch mounted. I used the original pieces from the S10 bracket just did a little cutting and bending. The piece mounted to the brake arm was simply bent 90 degrees, then the piece that the switch mounts into was trimmed of the cruise switch mount extra piece of metal and bent at a 90 and attached to the existing piece in the same location. I should have tooks pictures of each piece before I modified them but, I hope the pictures will help my explanation.

One step closer, when put the brake pedals in from the Buick my bracket sat at an angle to get the booster to set level it looked strange but it worked.

Made some progress, Monday night got the rest of my firewall painted. Now I can mount my hood finally. Dash is next. Taking some time off next week so I plan on getting the a/c heater in and be right at the verge of cranking it.

Re: Freddy's '52
Actually pushed the truck outside and washed it Saturday. I bought me a auto-darkening helmet and man the best money I've ever spent. I got my front clip braces made, but I had to fight with my hood to fit right. So the grill is now 2 inches higher than before. So I may be tucking the bumper up and in. I intergrated the S10 hood latch cause time has improved them, then attached the radiator top support to that.

Re: Freddy's '52
if you can find an extra grille you could add one more beam at the bottom and close the gap that way
