Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Update time!

So, on sunday we blew apart the front end, got the springs out, and then the engine/ tranny came out. I took the tranny to school to rebuild it.

And then this afternoon i put the rotors and wheels back on and took it outside for a bath. i borrowed a power washer from a buddy of mine and got most of the heavy gunk off the frame and firewall. heres what the front looks like all the way down with no springs, tomorrow some more of my front end components will be here.

Thank you very much guys! I appreciate it!

Update on my trans: its completely apart and cleaned and it looks like it had a light rebuild at some time, and its in great shape. Ill be doing some small tweaks to make it do some fun stuff and it should be about $100 in parts so im happy.

On the parts side, my spindles arrived today and the rest of my front end doo-dads should be here tomorrow!

Thanks Jim, I plan on blasting my control arms with it, so im hoping it can handle it!

Just finished up in the garage, got the heavy crud off the control arms, would have done more but i got hung up trying to get the spindle off the ball joint. Gotta do some homework now.

Looks like a bunch of good progress. I know how much work goes into tearing apart and rebuilding front suspension. Congrats on the blasting cabinet.

Read the whole thing,,,,Wow, very impressive. I got into wrenchin' on cars at your age but you are full on!
I sorta got stung by someone else working on my rig one time and that pushed me into doing as much on my own as possible.
At the rate your going it wouldn't surprise me to see you shootin color on the truck yourself
Cool vids
Great Truck and I'm not sayin it just cause I've got a Orange '72 also.
Keep up the great work

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Control arms cleaned up nice. It's cool you have a buddy to press your ball joints in for you. I used one of the rental kits from Autozone. I was suprised how well they work with an impact wrench.
Be sure to use some good quality ball joints too, I have read about some cheap ones failing on here.
That's some skills you have there tearing into the tranny.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks Mike!
I am very fortunate to have him to press in those ball joints, it definitely would have taken me a while longer myself. As for the balljoints, and most of the steering components, I'm using Moog, so hopefully they hold up.
I cant take all the credit for the tranny, I'm doing most of it myself, but i have guidance from my professor. Im doing it at school. It is awesome to learn though, and they are not as complicated or hard to rebuild as i though it would be!

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

This is my first post and have to say your doing what I'm getting ready to start doing. Yours is the same thing I had when I was your age but I sold that one and have regretted it ever sense cause I was the second owner of that truck. Now I am 31 and just bought another one just like it (orange and white 72).
I'm going to place a big order Monday or Tuesday at Southern Kentucky classics for parts to pick up and the Kyana swap meet in Louisville KY next weekend. Hopefully I can find some wheels like yours called a bunch of salvage yards in my area and only found one wheel lol... I have the same floor pan hole on the drivers side as yours did. Going to lower mine 2 1/2 spindles in front and 4" springs in rear.

Just wanted to say thanks for the pics and I have saved this tread on my phone to look at things when I get stumped.

Welcome to the boards! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my build!
Are you keeping your truck orange? it is the bet color after all also glad to hear you are lowering yours.

A good place to look for parts you cant find is right here on the boards, im sure someone is selling a set of rallys right now. heres the link to the parts section:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=8

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, i will try to help as best i can, and if i cant help, there certainly is someone here who can!

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Yeah I'm going to keep it orange and white but maybe a pearl orange and pearl white don't know yet haven't got that far in thought yet. Getting ready to order the front end rebuild kit from ECE and do that first. Hoping mine will be without a bed and front end like your pics in a week or two. There is so much info on the site that I have learned and that's just in a couple of weeks ago. I will continue to read your build up cause mine is close to your except for bagging it.
