Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Some more random shots of the tub, I'm happy with its rear ride height.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Truck looks great. The 348 really took me back, when i was a kid a guy had one down the street. I think it was in an impala. Anyway, cool setup.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

We also mounted the front clip on today, I hardly bolted it on at this stage but I got so excited I cracked the old Canon back out to take more pics.
I guess I was just so happy that its starting to come together, also front ride height is were I expected with the stock 403/olds Firebird coils.

I expect it to drop another inch to end up level all round by the time the heavy GMC bumpers, hood, rad, batt etc.. are fitted, note the front rims mounted on six lug Camaro/Firebird disc rotors.

Thanks Shawn, the 348 actually looks at home in the engine compartment, it kinda looks like it was born with it from new.

Nice idea, I like that. It's originally for the Jeep door handle?

If so, I assume you have to drill the large diameter hole for the filler?

Dan, the tray I used is actually a stainless fuel cap dress trim surround on CJ series Jeep's. I stumbled across them at a local Jeep parts supplier.
I had to open the hole out to slip over the 2.5" filler neck that I used in the tank, I have the lower part slanted towards the rear & drilled a little drain hole for spillage or water accumulation.

Oh, ok. For some reason I thought it was he door handle surround. I even went online to a Jeep parts supplier and of course I couldn't find it...I was looking for the wrong thing.

Drilling the small hole was a smart idea. I see you put some kind of door edge guard(?) around the hole I assume to minimize any rattling between the fill tube and this pan. How did you slant it? It looks like it sits flush with the wood from above, but I imagine you shimmed one end with something?

Ok, I found it:

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/gas-tan...-5463803m.html

Posted just in case someone else comes along later and is looking for it. A little pricey for what it is, but nice.

I like THIS one too, but it's even more expensive:

Thanks Dubie, I've been keeping an eye yours as well, as for the stance I'm pretty happy the way it sits & I still have 3.8" of travel in the rear, front springs are stock Firebird.

Dan, the trim sit flush but if you look closely there is slant built in to the lower section around the hole of the surround, I could of sat the taper either way but I chose to run it towards the back, it just looked/flowed better.

Yes your correct, I opened the hole a little more & fitted a rubber bead in around the trim case of movement or vibration.

Thanks Red.
Let me echo what dubie said: you've done a fine, fine job on the truck. It's obvious you take care to do EACH nicely. I like that and hope to do much the same with mine, but I confess everything I do doesn't always come out exactly like I'd have wanted it to.

I like that you went with a 348 as I'm putting one into my '48. Did you find it there, or did you pick it up in the States?

I picked it up from a scrap guy in upstate NY and had it shipped here, it is actually a 63 truck motor. There's before & after pics of it on page 1 & 3.

Thank you for that wonderful compliment! I kind of miss working on it! I need to take something apart soon or I'll go stir crazy!
