Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
You could raise the entire floor (more than 4-5" on this) or you could cut the center section out. Mine just had a piece of plywood in the bed, so that's all I did because I'm not sure if I want it raised, or just with a notch cover yet.

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
l'm Loving the look of your StepSide,Very Cool. i have one that i'm about to get started on soon as all the porterbuilt parts get in. Has Nate told you what rear sway bar will work with your setup? Mine will be the inboard bag setup narrowed rear as well and I think a sway bar would help out alot. Keep posting!!!!!!!

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
Thanks! I appreciate that. Nate did mention the possibility of adding a rear swaybar after the suspension install was completed, although I haven't asked him any more about it yet, but I do agree it seems like a good idea. You haven't ordered it yet with the rest of the dropmembered stuff?
Post 'em up once you get it going, I'd like to see the progress. #TeamStepside!! |

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
I need to give Nate a call this coming week and talk to him about a rear sway bar, i haven't seen one for the rear on his website.. my parts should be here in the next few wks as soon as i get started wrenchin on it i plan on starting a build thread. how is the
5" backspacing working out on the front? i talked to 'SPOT' a few times about his setup and he's runnig 6.25 on the front, just wounding how your 5" bs is workin out with PB DM, since i haven't ordered wheels yet. |

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
Yeah, I didn't see the rear swaybar on their site either. It may be something they can build if you'd like one, not sure.
My front backspacing is actually 4.5". That's because those wheels were on my previous truck that was static dropped and when I ordered them that's what everyone running static seemed to be using. I notice on the bagged trucks that can be laid out 5.5" seems to be popular. I don't have any issues, except if the truck is almost on the ground the tires slightly rub the inside edge of the fender when trying to fully turn to lock. I may roll the fenders, but it's not really necessary. I'll go with more backspace if/when I get different wheels. I did run the CPP modular spindles which narrow the track width as well as the PB control arms, so that helps. Did you talk to Spot recently? I haven't seen anything new on his page. I love that truck. |

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
I plan on going with either 5.5 or 6.0 backspacing , i also ordered the CPP Modular spindels, D52 calipers and dimpled/slotted rotors. havent talked to Spot in awhile i think he's pretty busy at work. i love that truck also it's what got me thinking about puting a stepper on the ground. But i think yours is kickass to!!! tonight is the first time i've seen it.. it needs to be over in the build section it would get a ton of hits over there. I'l talk to Nate this week about the rear sway bar and let you know what he comes up with.

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
Yeah, it was his truck that made me pick up this stepper after looking for another one for a while, with the same intention of bagging this time around.
Thanks again for the positive words. Maybe I should have a mod move this over to the build section and go back in time and post a bunch of the many pics I have. I don't want to bore anyone with the same old sameold. Mine's got nothing on some of those trucks! Yes, let me know what they tell you about the swaybar. |

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
1lo67 if your running the Extreme front dropmember I know Porterbuilt recommends 5.25-5.5" BS for the front on a 8.5" wide wheel. The dropmember already narrows the trac width 1.25" per side. I went with the touring front dropmember on mine which narrows the trac width .25" per side and had to use 1" narrowed arms for my wheels which are 20x8.5" with 5.25" BS. Nate said this is what I need to lay out. I went with the touring so I would have more clearance for my BBC. Nate assured me it would lay out with my 2.5" drop spindles and 28" tall front tire. I can't wait to get it in and installed so I can find out.

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
Here's a shot of what it looks like from outside with the 4.5" bs. Not as pulled in as the increased bs most are using, and I really like that more narrowed track width look a 5.25" bs gives (besides the clearance) which some hate.
It doesn't hit anything, thankfully, aside from that slight rub I mentioned. Maybe the tire being a hair under 27" helps. I had ECE 2.5" dropped spindles, but I got the modular CPP 2" ones because they also narrow the track width and I don't have the money for new wheels right now, otherwise I'd have 20/22's on there. I await both of your progress pics! Last edited by Jimbabwe; 06-01-2013 at 11:00 PM. Reason: yes |

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
When I got an alignment, the guy put a crapload of spacers on there to get it right, and that was set at 5" because the truck couldn't go lower with the tools on the wheels!

Thanks!
But do you think "Chimp Knuckles" is better than "Ground Cover"? BTW, that's not actually painted on the truck, just a p-chop for my amusement! |

Any updates on this build?
As far as the name goes, I don't know what "Chimp Knuckles" means but I do know I like it better than "Ground Cover". |

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...
Thanks! I recently installed power steering and power brakes. Now the truck is a pleasure to drive. The Porterbuilt suspension is excellent; highly recommended if you're thinking of dropping your truck. I'm getting lot's of snapped-neck double-takes driving around. Just a few bugs to still figure out like blown compressor fuses and a slow leak up front. After adding check valves it no longer airs out overnight. Hell, this isn't even the "build" section, I hope people aren't getting bored or annoyed seeing this here, which started as a few suspension pics posted for Leon!
I was thinking "Ground Cover" as in: it's green and spread out low on the ground, but I did a pchop of someone's truck for them and another member said to go lower, it should be dragging on the ground like chimp knuckles, and it stuck. Here are some pictures... |

Wilwood master, CPP dual 8" booster, CaptainFab bracket with holes added for cool factor. Painted over gold iridite and matched the firewall patina on the bracket.
