can you give me the link to the Belltech shock relocators you used so I can pair them with the flip brackets I just purchased from Specialtyretail.

I bought them from another member, unfortunately they sucked...would recommend finding some by McGaughy's or other supplier.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
Thanks ya'll. She's been fighting me a little lately. First thing was random overheating, out of nowhere. Not dependent on speed or load. I replaced the thermostat and added some coolant. It's still getting hotter than it should, and dropping back to cooler than it should. Strange. In the meantime my gas mileage has gone up from 12.2 avg. to 14.7 which I attribute to likely having the wrong or malfunctioning thermostat before and now a stock 195...yet it's still not cooling properly so what does that mean?
Then I developed a rattle. It actually sounds like detonation, and only happens under load / acceleration but not always. Now I'm wondering if there is a computer issue, or the cooling problem is causing an issue or vice-versa. I really want to replace the water pump and clutch fan, but I hate to throw parts at stuff. Also thinking the EGR could be malfunctioning...or did it start working all of a sudden? Too many questions...not enough answers or time for diagnosis. In other news I charged the A/C. High and low side pressures are within range, but she's only cooling to about 20 degrees delta from ambient. Not great, but maybe we'll limp through the summer. Unfortunately I have a short attention span, and I've been thinking too much. I'd really like a clean 87-91 K5. Please talk me out of it! I don't have this truck where I want it yet!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
LEEVON, nice truck! I have an unmolested white 87 Silverado SWB I picked up a couple of months ago. I have one more kid to get through college so I am going the best bang for money I can, which seems to be your take on it as well. I just got some 2.5 lowering spindles last week and plan to replace everything up front. I also have 8" rallies to put on it, you mentioned 1/4 spacers? I am an old man, lol , and have never lowered anything so I am in new territory here. Do the front rally rims have to have spacers so they don't rub the spindles? I have seen that some have to grind the spindles. Thanks!
Also that last photo, did you cut another 1/2 spring off? |

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
Thanks! I'd like to see some pics of your truck! The spacers were temporary, until I could find some 15x7 rallies. You will likely have trouble with the 15x8's. I went into detail in another thread here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=rally
I never did cut another 1/2 spring, it could be a little lower in the front, but I'm happy with it anyways. In other news, I think I've whooped the temperature problem, there was a pinhole leak in the upper hose. The rattle is NOT detonation, it sounds like it's coming from the rear of the truck, like the sound a heat shield makes...so I'll fix it but not so critical. And I have the A/C cranking down to 48 degrees as of this weekend, after adding some more refrigerant and fixing a leak, so that's a win. The compressor is holding strong so far.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
Thanks much for the info, I bought the JDM spindles so hopefully I won't have the same problem. I like the old school rally's until maybe I can shell out some bucks for new rims and tires.
I have been on another forum for years (I have an 88 4x4 almost done daily driver, I have been working on for about two years) The other sight is great and we help a lot of people there but its not where I would go to get lowering advice, lol Thanks again [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
After looking through your other thread I went out and actually measured the rims I have and I have a set of 7" wheels. They are 8" from outside to outside but 7" on the inside with 3 5/8 back spacing. [IMG][/IMG]
Looks like I need to find a set of 8" for the rear. I found a set of 2 10" up in Kansas City but the guy did not want to ship them. |

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
Ahem, where in KC? BTW, you shouldn't rub at a 3 5/8 back. We're running 8' rallies on Yeller, and only just rub at full lock. A little grindy grindy should fix that.
Glad you got 'er goin', Leevon! I need to get my serp drive cleaned up and installed so I can have da A/C!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
I guess I can't stand to have a project where everything works on it. So I put the truck on Craigslist last weekend for TRADE ONLY, just seeing what's out there. Impala wagon, tri-five sedans, K5 blazers, Harleys, you know whatever might catch my eye. Now I remember why I mostly hate Craigslist. I've gotten nothing but texts wanting to know "what will you take". One guy wants me to write novels about the truck and send 100's of pictures. I appreciate that from a buyer's perspective...but I said TRADES ONLY! If you really wanted me to play nice then drive your happy ass over here with a stack of cash and get it done. I am not needing/wanting to sell and I definitely don't want to be badgered or have the truck picked apart. These Craigslist flakes kill me! Guess I'll just keep driving her.
Mods FYI I'm not offering the truck for sale here, nor will I be entertaining private offers per forum rules. Just venting!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
I was looking for a newer car for my daughter and put my 88 4x4 up for trade. I had the same exact experience- even after I had put a lot of pics and explained most everything that had been replaced on it in the add. I looked at a couple of pieces of junk and then gave up. You start out with one text next thing you know they have asked you 12 questions most of which are answered in the add, and then they finally send you a pic of a piece of crap.
I did just score a pair of 8" rally's for the rear of my truck off of craigslist though. |

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
Sad day for me, happy day for Joe. Yetti is gone. Look for him doing DD duty in the Joplin area soon. Probably on 22/20's and with a sport bumper.
It went to a good guy, who promised not to paint it purple or shave it or let it rot. I also made him promise to check in with us! Joe, if you read this you are NOT the kind of buyer I was talking about above. Glad you got it man. On to the next one.

Is the 71 back to DD duty? What next? 4x4?

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
The 71 is beating the streets for a few days, still needs some tweaks though. On the hunt...all over the map but I'm on to another square right now that's a 60K original miles Grandpa truck. How did you guess 4x4?

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
What size tires were you running on this one after the drop? Also did you measure the fender heights?

255/70/15, no rubbing. I did measure the fenders, but I don't recall the final height sorry.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
That's what i thought they were, thanks! No problem on the height, it looks similar enough to mine that those should be ok if i go that route. Hate that you sold it but looking forward to the next one!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed
Yetti's new owner has been busy doing exactly everything I still had on my list. Every time he texts me a new pic, the buy-back price goes up. Bed rust repaired, bedliner, sport bumper, clear headlights, killer stereo, one-piece back glass, hidden hitch and last I checked he was pushing 17-18mpg. Really glad he's taking good care of him.
WHY OH WHY DID I SELL THIS TRUCK!!!?
