Re: 56 made2drag

i cut 14.5 inches out of the long wheel base frame to make it the same as a swb 76 c10.

keeping it the stock specs as a swb c10 lets me keep a stock swb driveshaft in it (when i get a c10 rearend), but from what i have read there will be a 3 inch gap between the bed and cab because a stock swb 76 wheelbase is 3 inches longer than a swb 56.

i think since i flipped the axle on top of the leaf spings and DIDNT drill a hole in the axle pad to move the rearend back 1 inch....i may have a 2 inch gap now between the bed and cab.

i plan on moving the cab and fenders back 1 inch and the bed forward 1 inch to give me the right gap. or leave the cab and move the bed forward and have a 1 inch gap

once i know everything will work. i will weld diamond shape fishplates to the inside and outside of frame where welded and also box the inside to strenghten as much as possible.

Re: 56 made2drag

Nice work on shortening the frame.
IMHO you're going to have to make sure your rear tires are centered properly in the rear fenders for your bed placement and then adjust from there.

Re: 56 made2drag

the 76 c10 donor didnt have a driveshaft or c10 rear end so i dont know.

i could measure my 86 c10's but it has a 700r4

when i searched the forum i found that someone says the drive shaft is 59.5 in from center u-joint to center u-joint using a short tail and a c10 rear end.

Re: 56 made2drag

You have more patience than I do.
I would be looking for replacement pieces if mine had that much rust and damage.
Lets me know how fortunate I am with what I started with.
You've got a real good start on it.

Thanks Kim...with fenders 500 each...hood 600....rear fenders 400 each....kind of stuck trying to repair....wish i had the cash....LOL

i think i'll have to buy the doors though (500 each). Mine would require too much work and i would end up not being happy unless they were new.

Re: 56 made2drag

Im hoping the I can buy the "front face" fender patches and make them work....at 72 bucks each, i'll hopefully get everything looking good up front. Still have alot to do in the fall...i want to do the step notch in the rear and then put the bed on to work on the cab placement then do brakes and steering and transmission....once i'm able to drive it then slam it...then do more body work...most people would do the bodywork first but if its driveable i feel i'll be more likely to work on it more often. once every couple months right now...
