Re: 35 Years In The Making!

Hi there Mr.G just a question about your wide tires on the back well maybe more than one question. how wide are your rear tires, were the rims custom made, back spacing, tire size, and was the rear end narrowed????? Thanks my son in-law was interested for his truck...Vernski

The rims are Weld Wheels. The rear end was narrowed by Dutchmens out of Portland Or. Dont know the back spacing on the rims at the moment. Tire size 18.5 wide. Tell him to drop his rear end out of his truck. Order his rims with the back spacing of his choice. When I did mine in 2005 they did not have nothing larger than 18.5 wide tires. Now they have 22.5 wide. I would go with at least a 14 inch wide rim or wider for sure. With the rims mounted on the tires of your choice. Put them in where they go. Leave at least 1/4 inch of clearence on wheel well. Now measure the distance between the two rims on the back side. Call Dutchmens and tell them the measurements. They are very good to work with. They will walk you thru it step by step. They will send you some info and you fill out the measurements and send it back. Pro Street Yea. The wider the better. Have fun. Note Tires wont fit with stock frame. Just take bed off and take your measurements. Awsome

No prob . Just wanted to say I am running ladder bars. They say not so great for the street. I spent a ton of money on this project. 4 Bar would be better for the street. But. Its a hot rod and I have to drive it different. 28" of rim width 37" of tire oh yea.

MR.G what's the pro & con of one over the other, is there handling problems w/ ladder bars? BTW the fuel cell looks great, and here is a pic of my GMC it's mostly stock just a 3" drop in front and 6" in the rear. Thought you might like to see what's in my garage. Cool pic's of the fuel cell thanx...Vernski

Wow that is clean. Love the wheel choice. Very clean Vernski. Lader Bars are easy to set up and work great on the strip. Can have clearence problem on in and out of driveways. But again its a Hot Rod drive it smart. I plan on taking my engine and getting some power out of it. Never had a bad boy engine so I have to do it once. So Ladder bars were the choice for me. I am sure in and out of drive ways that are steep might be a prob if I take them at too much of an angle. Not sure yet I will let you know lol. At the time 4 Bar looked like it might be too much for my first Prostreet Job. I know there is more adjustment with 4 Bar. But for the street you just need to set pinion angle and your done. I do like the looks of 4 Bar over the Ladder bars. Its got more going on lol. As for handling I would say because of the narrowed rear end and the coil overs are so close together, might get some more body roll. Again its a Hot Rod and you got to give up some. Not sure which would be better For handling with a narrowed rear end. Stock set up prob I would go with 4 Bar.

Casey I am still thinking of just some asst shocks. And then maybe hyd ram. But it has to be small and tuck up out of the way. Still want the prostreet look. Not the dump truck look lol. I have a very small bottle jack that I will try when I get the floor frame done. I was thinking of making a set up that would allow the bottle jack to mount on the top of the pumpkin. Being that far back will cut down on the height of the ram or the jack. This weekend I will lift the bed up just far enough to get the tires out. Its less than 45 degrees for sure. Hail just need a sponsor lol. Hey lets put the brake lines on and you can pull me to the cruise. That will be the last time you will be out front lol. Congrads on the passing the big test.
