Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go

There was some small floor mod's required.....took about a 3 inch strip of firewall out abouve the tranny tunnel to make things easier and cleaner for in and out. We fought it for awhile but it just worked out easier with the oil pand and power rack

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go

The tranny isn't bolted down just yet but it's very close to being where it needs to be....The high hump tunnel i think would make it if the truck didn't lay frame. That 6L90 has a massive pan and is huge, but it's so close......it might work

Seeing you in action has got me totally re-thunkin' the Daphne build when it comes to be.
This is a real novice question but how do you find freshly wrecked caddys?

Got me on the edge of my seat waiting for more

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go

Well I finally recieved my altenator and bracket.....and made the choice to go with the AC setup on the LSA....Hope to have the final mounts in place shortly....I have several clearance issues but the one that is the most of a pain is the lines going into the power rack. There are a couple different ways to get around this......1) Install a pulley kit to lift the AC and Altenator to the top side of the engine. The only kit i have found that was close for this was 2500 dollars and was all in satin black...just not enough kits to run the supercharger.....2) Build a shim to rotate the power rack down a half a inch and make new engine mounts......Well for what i want to do I am going with option number 2 , I spent sometime yesturday looking and thinking and it's going to be the best fit for my application......

I never once used the word shoddy.....there are just somethings done differently then i would have done them. But thats buildings trucks and the way it goes...it doesn't help that i opened a can of whoop a$$ with that LSA install. But it should start to come together shortly...

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go

Rantings of a over worked mad man.....

It's been a bit since i did a update but i think at long last i have lost my mind....I don't know what i was thinking but i have 4 builds of my own on the go at the same time.....plus apparently I took on 3 builds to help a buddy out who was slammed.....Still haven't really managed to find time to finish the shake down on the 58.....and i think i just bought 4 trucks.....what was i thinking. People just show at my place with stuff and say hey ya wanna buy this? I have never pulled so much wrench and been so far behind in my life, I have all my friends turning wrench at my place in a atempt to catch up but it's not working......and since Dino won't clone joe for me I have to pound out some wrench work asap....

Yeah you guys with the multiple builds going on at one time blow my mind. I can do that when I am doing oil paintings, but could not imagine it with vehicles.

Hard enough to remember where to pick the work up at every day on just one rig !!

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go

So...New plan yet again....
Moving the engine ahead a 1" and up 1/2" and building a new bracket for the altenator so i can leave it down low and rotate it up higher so it clears the power rack. This means that new altenator i bought is going to get reworked and some tabs cut off of it but it's a simple fix in the end compared to everything else that we could think of. It also means that altenator bracket i waited for so long is now scrap......but isn't that the way

Re: 1966 SBFS project low and go

Okay so its been awhile....

I managed to get the engine mounts in.....and the ac looks like it's going to work out and.....it clears the altenator. These engines were not made to fit into these trucks and the front end didn't make it any easier. I tried a few things and then just had to say...@@@@ it and move the entire setup ahead 1.25 ".....and up 3/4" to clear the rack and lines. So it's bolted into place and the tranny cross member and drive shaft are next as I look for a new tailshaft, my current one has a crack in it......This is one of those projects that just keep side tracking you into doing more work and road blocks. But I am back on it as I throw myself into high gear......
So here is my current list of projects all on the fly...

My street truck.... .paint for that soon..like maybe a couple of weeks
LSA.................... Tranny tunnel and fab work
1964 with the 406.... Finish the clean up and tune
1952 chevy truck........Just about completed all the body mods and ready for tear down and chassis work....This is the most modified truck I have ever touched and it belongs to my buddy and it's 100 % crazy
1941 chevy sedan delivery ..................this thing is just fricken cool. I seperated it blasted the frame and painted the chassis and ordered the parts last night. Old school retro rod style...original 6 cylinder rodded up
1978 camper special............Just finished the chassis and it's almost completely original awaiting a painted cab and it's back on that project.

So my shop is stuffed....I have had to recruit people to get things completed and am banging things out of the shop in record time right now.
