Re: HRSaR
Man, that does suck. Looks like the grill might spring back into shape once it is unbolted. Do you have any idea what happened?

Re: HRSaR
Well the vehicle section of the investigation team CSI-Trucks came out with their yellow tape and red string, took a lot of photos, examined all the witnesses, took plaster casts of the tire tracks.... the whole shebang. They took like a week, you know?
They want to charge the Tow Truck with attempted murder.

Re: HRSaR
My wife and I own 8 vehicles, all of them are GM products, and 5 of them are trucks.
CSI- Trucks determined that once we got the tow truck home, we surrounded it with so much awesome goodness that one thing started to eat at its happiness. In this photo you can see the vista from the point of view of the tow truck and at the bottom of the hill, the old blue trailer that came with our fist camper. (it is the blue splotch between the white 55, and the backhoe) This blue trailer has been used for hauling wood mostly, but for a majority of the time it just sits down there not being a nuisance and out of the way. The blue trailer, however, is a FORD !!!!!!!! In a fit of festering rage, the tow truck jumped its gear and rode its parking brake all the way down the hill in an attempt to kill the Ford trailer. (If you look really close you can make out the path the truck took) The hatred this truck bears that trailer was never more evident than when I was pulling it out of that mess. It actually aimed for, and hit again, the blue trailer while winching itself up to the road. Sadly the tow truck suffered the majority of the damage when the tree convinced it to stop moving.

Re: HRSaR
Evidently the e-brake couldnt hold it.
The photo of the inside of the cab shows the e-brake still fully engaged at time of impact. (you can just see it past the steering wheel in the photo) It is my own fault, all during our travels I would chock-block the wheels on any kind of slope. However once I got it home, I was using it every couple of days, and I got lazy and complacent because I had never had a problem with it. So, thanks for all the condolences guys, but frankly its the "You freekin idiot!" camp who wins this round. Now instead of just dusting it off and reselling it, I am probably going to polish it up back to a "day one" kind of status. Not back to factory, but the day after... LoL If that makes sense.

Re: HRSaR
Wow that's a bummer. I just finished reading your crazy adventure only for it to end with the truck getting smashed while parked on your own property. I towed my 65 from Fort Jackson South Carolina with my wife to Post Falls, ID. Only we used a six cylinder Toyota 4-runner and a u-haul trailer. It was no where as exciting as your trip. Believe it or not we still averaged 15mpg with the A/C on making that cross country trek.

Re: HRSaR
No progress has been made yet on the tow truck.
Been using it, amazing how handy it can be to have a truck with a huge-ass winch on it when you have land and equipment to manage !! But now the transmission needs rebuilt, it will pop out of 2nd gear sometimes, and has started to lurch and surge when shifting from 3rd to 4th, and at 50-60 mph that can be a tad unnerving. Been talking to contractors about building a shop, but have also been looking at properties in town with detached shops as well. I have recently discovered how much of a PITA it is to work on vehicles when the nearest parts store is 20 miles away.... I was catching up on some of Bomps insanity, and seen a few really nice replacement pieces..... may need to make a road trip.

Re: HRSaR
I think we can save your pieces with a little hammer and dolly work. Sorry to hear about your tranny having issues. I had two sitting here for the longest time.
Remember. Shop size is always better when over built 3 times bigger than you thought you'd need. |

Re: HRSaR
I do have a couple SM420's at the shop. I don't know the condition. Would likely need to pull the top and have a look.
