Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

No need in all that! I have a set of CTS seats and I had the same issue. I tore the system apart and figured out that the driver side connector has a second lead that needs 12v. You have to do the normal + & - for the red and black, but there is also a lower amperage 12v+ that feeds the switches for control voltage of the relays in that box. I believe the wire is red/white and is right next to the main red wire. The picture below is (I BELIEVE) the driver side connector. but I for some reason think is may be the pass side. Either way you get the point. Tie the top left two wires together and feed them with 12v+. All the other wires are unneeded. They are for the seat belt detection, memory function etc.

I'll verify the color when I get home. I have made mine work, but haven't found a mounting solution yet. Haven't tried real hard either. I'll get there.

That would be extremely helpful I was pulling my hair out trying to figure that out. On my passenger seat I have a orange and black wire that make the seat work. Let me know what you figure out. It was driving me crazy. I think there is more wires in the bottom of the drivers seat than in an original C10!

Haha, just a few. If you look on the motors attached to the seat, you will see a ton of small gauge wires running to each motor, those are sensor wires. Not needed. There is a nice little bundle of cables that run up to the switches, and those are important. I believe the Pass side + are orange, and the Driver side is red and red/white.

I agree. That material looks like it will go very well with your paint color.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

Ok thanks so much for the help texasld. I think I got it figured out. I have a large gauge orange, red and a small gauge red and white that I hooked up to make everything work. Everything is functioning just like the passenger seat. I think I had just dismissed the smaller gauge red/white wire which had me stumped. This has made me feel much better about the caddy seats.

Just so everyone can see what we are working with I took a picture of the birds nest under the seat. I took everything apart trying to figure it out and thanks to texasld I did get there eventually. I will re-loom everything abd get it all tied up again shortly.

I liked at mounting again and I am fairly certain I am going to cut the front brackets off and weld in a flat piece of steel or rectangular tubing to the bottom of the front seat tracks. I will then be able to catch at least one or two factory bolt holes and then drill a new hole for the inside/right side (right bracket on the drivers seat) to secure that portion. I am going to try to work this out on Monday.

AWESOME!!! I'm glad you got it sorted out. I measured my seats in my Tundra and they have a 3.5" riser bracket on the bottom. I have devised a plan to get the cts seats where I need them to be, so my mounting method will be way different than stock.

Cool build. I skimmed through, so sorry if I missed anything. But about the '73 title, if he had financed the truck the bank would have issued the title at the time it was paid off. Most likely a 36 month loan at the time so if he bought truck in '70 it would have been paid off in '73 and new title would have been issued in his name.

Carry on!

Yes thank you very much for the help. I thought about raising the seats, but when I put them in the truck they felt decent. I plan on putting them back in on Monday and I will take some photos.

Here are a few pictures of the seats. Today was my first day off in over a week, so I was super happy to get back to working on the truck.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I ordered an oil sender adapter from ebay last week. It worked great. It is basically an extension for the sender at the back of the block that is drilled for 1/8" I just unscrewed the stock senser put in the adapter then the old style sender and the ls sender on top of the adapter. It took maybe 5 minutes. Now I can read oil pressure through my gauges and my pc.

I got the inner fenders painted and undercoated today so I was able to install them. Hopefully tomorrow the hood will get painted and I can throw that on and then square up the front end and cab. The next week ill put the grill on and front bumper!

Seats look great! What year are they out of? Mine are 2003 and they have a different mounting style.

Inner fenders are SHINEY!

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

They are 2009 Cadillac CTS seats. I am going to recover them to match the saddle interior/highlander material. I did modify the front mounting brackets. They use to have a hook to grab the floor, so I cut that off and will be welding in some 1/8 plate between the front rails to secure them to the floor.

And yes the inner fenders are shiny! A little body work goes a long way

Those seats look comfy, and the engine bay is shaping up nice! Are you planning to keep the headrests when you re-cover the seats?

They are comfy! The headrests are removable, so I am going to try to get a second set and make headrest "deletes" so I can go either way. I want the headrests in for long road trips but might be nice to take them out for shows So the seats blend in with the truck a little better. I am getting more excited the closer it gets. Hopefully by the end of the month I will just have the bed to contend with.

Here are a few shots of the hood on and the gaps. I worked on the gaps for a short while, but will get final fitment when I get the bed on and make sure everything is square and has even gaps.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I dont have everything working in on my gauge cluster yet but I should on the next few weeks. This is the LMC digital gauge cluster. I am happy with the way it looks so far. Here are a few pictures of it in place. There are also a few pictures of the truck out in the sun. We had 75¤ weather this whole weekend which was wonderful.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I used my original '70 inner grill just cleaned it up and shot the hardware with some flat black. The grill shell is an aftermarket with vinyl letter (not correct font) that I bought off the parts board. I will use this one until I have time to restore my original grill shell.

Thanks I am pleased with it for now, but I will be refurbishing my original sometime in the future.

I haven't made much progress other than getting my last ground straps secured, sun visors (the original black ones woth the CB 10 codes) installed and the front bumper on.

I know. Optimistically I was hoping for last August/September but that obviously didn't happen. Now I'm hoping for mid to late March but we will see. If I could get the bed out of paint prison it would help things a bit.

Today the horrible storm from the north reared its ugly head in the south, so like any smart man (scared child) I hid inside. I decided it would be a good day to refurbish the LMC wood steering wheel I got from a parts truck. I steered by using various products to clean the hand gunk off of the wood. I found plain Lysol worked the best with a rag. I then cleaned the finger grips with my knife because I got tired of scrubbing. I then gave it one good final wipe down. I then used elmers glue to fix the cracks and joints. After that I took it out to my garage and secured it to a work table with a bolt and commenced to sanding it. The bolt worked great so I didn't have to hold it. I am almost done sanding it and then I will hit it with a stain and then a few layers of polyurethane. i know these steering wheels aren't as nice as some but this one was available and fit my budget... which was nothing. I think it will look just fine when I am done.
