From this

To this in 4 hours, brushed on enamel. Took almost as long to tape off the spears and the cab for the two tone as it did to paint the whole thing black. I will call it a 40 footer! I plan to let the paint cure then sand down through it.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I like the fancy Aluminum recovery tanks but can't see in spending that much money for something I can not see the fluid in. I needed an overflow tank for the radiator so went to Autozone and bought one of the generic plastic recovery tanks. I used the factory holes that where already drilled, put in Three rubber grommets for hose and two behind the mounting bracket so it wont rub against the the paint, also split a gas line and placed on the lower bracket in two spots that lay against the fender wheel all for under $10.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Holy hell, that looks just like my wife 58 fleetside sitting in the yard, Now THAT'S a driver!! nice one man!!

I cut out the rust in the other step side fender last night and welded in new metal. I ran out of gas shielded wire after my first 2 tacks so I had to do the rest of it with flux core. After a couple burn through, I got the heat dialled in and got it done. The bed is now ready to be roughed up and shot with primer.
I took a stripping disc to the lower part of the front drivers side fender thinking there would be some rot hiding behind the apparent bondo abuse and yet, the metal was clean. This truck does however have a ton of brazing done to repair some older front end damage. I've come to the conclusion that I've been over thinking the body on this truck and need to stay on task with my original build plan and have a rough body on a modern chassis and powertrain set up.

I have this entire week off work so there will be some major progress happening on this thing. Wiring and mounting body panels are on the top of that list

Excellent and cheap...which of course is the only better than excellent alone!

I never thought of not being able to see the coolan.! I HAVE a fancy spun aluminum one I've not installed yet and hadn't considered that.

Looks good. I can't remember if you used welt between the fender & bedside or not? Was the hassle just that they're big & awkward?

Dan, I like your chrome letters, I might have to go for some too. Yes, welting, really nice stuff I got from Classic Parts and yes...................just award, a lot of up and down, crawling under, reaching etc, some 30+ bolts if you include the spare tire bracket which was challenging in itself.......
I'm not a spring chicken. (58 years young, sound familiar?)

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Worked on my truck over spring break, found out starter needs to be rebuilt, cleaned gauge glass and got the front axle cut out and the other mocked up, pulled out the seat and nasty shag interior carpet it had along with gas tank which surprisingly is in great shape

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Pulled out the dash pieces.
Labeled them and put them away for a rainy day.
I figured each part would make for a nice small project. i.e. Gauges, heater, turn signal assembly
