Nice work, very informative. I am looking forward to seeing this truck run under its own power.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
so I did a test where I connected a 300 watt (30 volt 10 amp) bench power supply directly to the inverter and the wheels spin just fine

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
more trouble shootin'
here I am bypassing the Positive Contactor in that black Safety Box and only closing the Negative one, and we see full voltage from the 30v bench power supply, so something is up with the Positive Contactor closing then opening, or maybe some circus board logic in that box, donno |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
Finally, we figured out how to spin that transmission, and turns out it was operator error, I simply did not understand what the software was doing, once we figured it out, whalla

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
4 hours of unpinning and repining and all I got to show for it is the VCU and throttle pedal are now on the other side of the firewall

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
got the second connector harness through the firewall and now the EV Vehicle Control Unit (aka VCU) as well as the skinny pedal live in the cab, getting ready for the next test from within the cockpit, the goal still being running and driving truck by the end of this month
FUN FACT: Let me put something in perspective for those of you remotely entertaining this idea, or thinking hewk no electric cars are too complicated, I have done a few LS Swaps, and I know for a matter of fact that this VCU has 40 pins total or 40 wires and the LS PCM has exactly precisely twice that much, 80 pins so 80 wires, think on that for a minute! Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
if you've never installed a center console using the finest plumbing supplies, are you even a Certified ShadeTree Mechanic (CSTM) ?
console was sourced from a 2000 Chevy Z71, holy cow, I'm actually using a Chevy part ? lol Last edited by Gregski; 07-18-2023 at 12:11 AM. |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
since our transmission came out of a hybrid [pronounced: "has a gasoline engine and an electric motor"] Lexus GS450h it actually has two transmission fluid pumps, on the inside it has a mechanical pump driven by the gasoline engine via the input shaft, on the outside it has a second electric one, that way when the engine is shut down at a red light lets say, the fluid still gets circulated
so last night I got the transmission external electric "oil" pump working for the first time, I was so relieved to hear it a pumpin' since up to this point I had no idea if it was good or not, and here's a little dirty secret, those pumps are worth more than the transmission here's a little short video on BetaMax for you: Lexus GS450h Transmission Oil Pump Test let's give it up for the OGs who will get that reference |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
So the goal is still to have a running driving truck by the end of this month. So what do we have left to do to meet this specific goal?
1. Wire an Inverter relay to turn it on from the VCU 2. Add CAN Bus code to control the Chevy Volt DC-DC Converter 3. Wire a relay for the Toyota Prius EPAS (Electronic Power Assist Steering) 4. Wire a relay for the Tesla water pump 5. Add PWM code to control the Tesla water pump This will be a crude drive test, most likely with a laptop sitting shot gun for S-box control as I am still in the process of finding suitable ChatGPT code in order to automate that. Also we will be running an off board Chevy Volt battery charger, for this test lol |
