Re: My 52 GMC Build

Glad you got your door on! I'm looking at the extra height/extra length Atlas 8k lift. I'd like to be able to put my crew cab 2500HD on it and under it. I'm about 3 hours away from one of their store fronts in Des Moines, IA.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Great lift! I wish I had headroom for one - what I really need is a standalone shop like yours. I’m very lucky to have an oversized 4 car garage but it’s not ideal for some of the bigger messes. One day....

I like the first lift better...
A lift would be a welcome addition to my garage but don't have the headroom.

I've been considering a drive on so I can park 2 cars in one spot and make more use of the room.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

You have a good idea for a garage. I’d like to have a lift but a ride will suit.

I saw that one but this one will suit my needs. I am 2hrs from them and they are only charging $100 for delivery to my driveway.

That is why I went with vaulted ceiling. I'm going from a 1.5 car to this. My one day is now.

The first one would be way cheaper. Not enough head room is most peoples problem, when they want a hoist.

It will be used like that sometimes.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Shop Update: So Friday A big box showed up in my driveway!!!
Saturday my boys and I lifted the 2000lb box into a 4x8 trailer using my engine hoist and pulled it back to the shop using a lawn tractor. My good friend Joe came over and the 4 of us got the Hoist set up, and in about 5 hrs had it going up and down.
Then Sunday I brought my Jeep in and put it on the hoist for a test before parking it in it's spot, then brought my 13yr olds Jeep in. I also put my DD '87 Jimmy in for some service this week. Shop fills up but 5 vehicles and still room to work. I'm so happy now time to play. Making a nice purchase for the truck this week.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

In case anyone needs a long time to plan. I am planning on going to the AD nationals in Franklin Indiana next fall Sept 15th. I'll arrive on the 14th. Maybe we could get a bunch of us there?

Lower, first, the hoist looks great. Are the walls temporary, to keep items away from the vehicles. I would love to go to the AD nationals, but it would be hard, will see...Jim

Congratulations on the hoist. They sure are handy! Man, your shop is looking great.

Franklin IN is only 2.5 hours from me and I would enjoy going / meeting up. Don't have a running AD though...

Amazing how the walls close in after you move in, Looks great congrats!

My wife told me I could have a 100' X 200' and I would still find a way to fill it up. LOL.

Where there is a will there is a way. It is actually a '75 CJ6, Jeep only made 55,000 of them and most did not stay in north america.

Ya it's not as open for sure. I still have way more room than I ever have had. For sure I could fill anything. This is my dream size and I'm like a kid in the candy store.

Truck Update:
Ordered new rims today for the front 18X8 Mob wheels artillery low gloss white.
That should change things up a bit. They will get here in the new year. Then I will paint the duallys to match.

It's awesome that you have 5 in there and can still have room to work. My 28x30 can only have 2 in it and do that. Shoot, my 39x40 is the same way thanks to the center divider wall.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

I like artillery wheels and almost went that route myself. I didn't realize Jeep had a CJ6. Just saw the extended wheelbase and assumed it was an 8. That looks longer than a CJ7 also?

I had a '53 Willys with the "F" head engine and rear mounted PTO. Wish I still had it.

Ya not many options for a steel 18" with 3.5" backspacing, but that is the one I wanted anyways. A CJ6 was a CJ5 with 20" between the door and rear fender 10" longer wheelbase than a CJ7. They also made a 4 door version. Ronald Reagan had one. The CJ8(Scrambler) is more like a pickup, cool. Your '53 would have been awesome.
