Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The hood looks great. I need to get by and see it in person. I met a guy with a 61 this weekend that I will be helping. He needs a hood hinge if you know where one is.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks, and yeah, I called him last night to see if he was coming down this weekend to help out. I didn't mind moving it around on my own prior to paint, but will need help now.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Off late and just too much to catch up on at home. But did get the park lamp assemblies finished paint wise. Pulled another set off another hood I have for the screws and hardware. Should be able to get the assemblies done tonight.
Have all the rubbers waiting to install also, just need a set of hands to help flip the hood.

I used to be terrified to paint, but like most things practice will give you what you need to establish your own technique to paint. The mix ratios can be looked up or gotten from the suppliers and the base coat can even be purchased premixed, so just practice after that. The worst thing you can do is have to sand it down and repaint again. And I was just there with the front end a few weeks ago when the color didn't match. Space can be a big factor for a lot of people. I have the space, but not a proper paint booth, but I have still have good success (err...maybe luck). Thanks for the positive comments. Note: I'm just using a 30 gal upright compressor and a lowes mid level HVLP gun, so it can be done at home and with marginal money. I do buy good paint, currently using the PPG Omni line.

It is a skill to be able to paint though. My truck will be my 1st paint job so I'm hoping it goes well. Done tons of study and like you, have painted many small things. Good work. Liking the decal.

The only info I can pass on about painting in my opinion is that the clear is where you really have to pay attention. Primer is an easy fix as is base coat. Tack rag good between coats. Prep is everything. If its not right before you paint, it won't be right after. The clear in my opinion is the hardest as you lay the coats over each other and it hardens a little different than the paint, so its much harder to fix issues like trash in the coat once it goes down. I like to go light over heavy and multiple coats so I don't get runs. Runs do happen though and can be buffed, so don't sweat it. Like mentioned before.....its only paint and can be repainted if need be. You'll be fine once you start painting. Ohhh....and clean the gun good, especially when going from primer to base and base to clear. I like acetone personally.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I've had some experience painting..painted my bed and fenders awhile back. lol But learned the hard way...never use cheap paint. Too thick for sure. But, I wasn't to worried about how it came out then because I just wanted the metal covered. Thanks for the tips.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Finished the park/ turn lamp assemblies. The NOS lens's made the biggest difference in them.
Took pics with the original lamps that were removed from the donar hood for comparison. Its amazing how dark the amber lens will turn over 50 years.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got a little bit of time in on the truck in between garden and yard duties.
Got the driver side fender extension taken off. The antennae mounted on the new one and the extension installed. Also go the "new" spotlight installed. I like this design much better personally. Next job will be the wiper nozzles and lines and then the hood.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The CH model lights have really grown on me. I really like the change. Its a smaller light so maybe that's why I like it better.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Not a lot done this weekend. Climbed and removed a 100ft sycamore this Saturday that was leaning over a buddies house and spent Sunday with the wife.
Did get a few minutes to flip the hood and get the liner done. I think it will take one more coat in the large flat areas to even out the coat 100%. Will try to fit the lights, bezels and hood seals/ foam tonight if I get off on time. Pics of the hood in various stages of work and 1 from work Saturday.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks TJ. Hood is coming along, will be completed this week. Still waiting on harness from American Autowire, should see it soon though.
Tree was fun. We've been trying to get to it for a few months. I used to be a lead climber for a hazardous removal company. We basically did all the trees no one else wanted to touch. This monster was 25' off the house, double top and right at 100' tall. Spent around 3.5 hrs climbing and roping it out, but we got it down with no issues.
