Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
I vote trim too. I prefer that trim to none, or even the 69-72 trim. MAN!!!! I wish I would have bought a '68! Maybe in the future (shhhh...... don't tell my wife I said that)

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Wheels look good, so I guess your not going to send them down to me!!!! The satin black idea would be cool, I saw a 71/72 on eBay a while back that was satin black with a satin clear coat on. That's what my buddy cleared my valve covers and air cleaner with a satin clear coat. I'm thinking of doing my original metal door panels also.

Looking good Keith. Definitely run the trim.
When you polished your billet wheels did you use mothers and a microfiber towel? Powerball? Or anything else?

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Mothers Billet (says Billet on the can) polish and a microfiber towel works really well .. it got the tape residue off, no problem. The power cone is a very nice tool for the nooks and crannys. . If you have a drill that will hold up.. definitely consider a power cone.

Holy crap, the body lines and gaps are amazing. I would go nuts even attempting what u did to get them that smooth. You make me want to find trim for my truck... It makes the wheels pop with the black!

Digging the gas tank and of course these trucks demand the trim. I like a slick side stepper but the fleets need trim IMHO. Wheels cleaned right

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Even though you've already decided....another vote for the trim. The only real reason I don't like my step side is trim was not an option.
Wheels look great as well.

Thanks Mike, have to make up a spacer to put under the tank so the it sits level with the notch. I have the tank drilled out so it's almost ready to mount permanently. I just bought some new side trim and tailgate trim from board member Rocketking, now all I need is the front hood/fender trim.

Keith it is looking awesome. I just saw the trim and it does compliment the wheels perfectly. I can't wait to see it when you get the new bedsides.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Let me know how that goes. If it goes well i may have to make a trip to KY and pick me up a couple bed sides also. Its only about a 4 or 5 hour drive for me.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
I ended up ordering my bed from GMCPauls this week. They stock the custom bedsides too and I bought some other parts from them that I needed for the truck. I also ordered front & rear bumpers and rear bumper brackets. They had more of the parts in stock and had a little better shipping then SOKY did. My only problem is nobody has a tailgate in stock so now I have to keep looking for one I'm going to try to find a nice rust free original before I order a aftermarket.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Also, today I received my new Mar K side trim along with new tailgate trim from board member RocketKing. The new trim looks amazing, very high quality reproduction.

Sounds like you will have your bed pretty soon. Bummer on the tailgate. Good luck finding a nice one. I gave up and straightened mine. I would love to find a nice takeoff.
I the trim! Congrats |

Not original, but supposedly the quality in these are supposed to be excellent and the metal very thick. http://www.autometaldirect.com/body-...43_80_155.html
