Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Can't wait to get the rest of the trim on. *** The tune is coming along nicely, hope to have that wrapped up by the end of the month also. I had a new driveshaft built with a slip-yoke, heavy duty carrier bearing and a double cardan joint. This should make all my driveline angles nearly perfect and hopefully no vibrations..... There are two other things that I'm looking to upgrade: 1) I'm thinking about switching to a hydroboost setup for the brakes. My power steering pump is already setup for it, so it shouldn't be a hard conversion. Any thoughts on it? Any recommendations as far as a kit to purchase? 2) Driving this thing is a beast with the factory power steering box! I would like a quicker ratio box. Any suggestions or recommendations?

On the hydroboost, I'd recommend Hydratech as that's what I'm running on both my 71 C/10 and my 65 GTO.
Here's a link to their stuff. http://www.hydratechbraking.com/GM_67-72_CK.html

Red head steering. Zero complaints here. Nice, firm, tight, reduced ratio, and my pump stopped whining

I think Delmo uses ABS Powerbrake:
http://www.abspowerbrake.com/maincat...ameset024.html Not sure how the price compares, but I think all of these options are rather pricey.

I ordered quick ratio directly from redhead--good service/fast shipping. If you're not in a huge rush, I'll have mine up for grabs soon-ish (dropmember going in). For hydro-boost, check out the Astro-van conversion captainfab offers, if you don't want to break the bank.

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
It's definitely not as relaxed as a stock box when highway cruising, but I wouldn't call it touchy or twitchy. I did run a flow reducer to slow it down some

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Rob,
I used a hydroboost from a 2500 Silverado. The only problems I ran into was connecting an adjustable pushrod to the unit to attach to my pedal. Other than that, it was cheap and works great. I have a list of fittings I used laying around somewhere, if that would be beneficial at all. |

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Rob,
Here are the fittings I used on my hydroboost setup. The power steering pump already had two return ports, so I didn't have to add a return or T the two return lines. I used 10' of Powerflex teflon -6 hose (RUS-632620). Steering box fittings: RUS-640380 5/8-18 TO -6 RUS-648050 11/16-18 TO -6 PS Pump fittings: RUS-648060 16MMx1.5 to -6 Hydrooboost fittings: RUS-670531 16MMX1.5 MALE adapter to -6 RUS-670541 18MMx1.5 MALE adapter to -6 Pressure Hose ends: RUS-620421, Endura Hose end -6 90 degrees. I just used rubber hose for my return lines, and the hydroboost and steering box both already had a hose barb fitting for the return lines. Hope this helps. |

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
I did mine with all factory off the shelf parts. I used a new hydroboost unit and lines from what I believe is for a 2000-2003 2500 chevy pickup. All I had to do was drill holes in the mounting plate to bolt in onto my truck and lengthen the pushrod by welding on the original rod on the end for the extra length. Then I just bent the lines to fit and lay nicely.
The holes that have a star pattern stamped into them are the holes that originally had the mounting studs in them, the others I drilled to mount it. I did have to modify the mounting plate slightly after this picture was taken, I had to cut it to clearance the column support mount, and cut it a little more to look better with that part cut out. Make sure that when you measure the length of the pushrod, you have the brake pedal where you want it, and have the return spring in the end of the hydroboost. I had the brake pedal too high, and did not have the return spring on mine, and had to shorten mine from what you see in this picture.

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
No problem! I would check and see if you have someone local that can build you one. That way they can tell you how to measure everything to make sure you get exactly what you need. Also, I changed mine from the center hang bracket that had the light duty carrier bearing to bottom mounted bracket with a heavy duty carrier bearing. We also upsized the shaft diameter from 2" to 3" due to the amount of torque that my engine will put out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am curious what caused you to need the new drive shaft specfically the double cardan joint. I have not been able to get my suburban perfect yet. I have a vibration under acceleration when hauling my camper. Pinion angles are 4up on the pinion and 4 down on the trans output
