Ordered more parts, so what else is new.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I put a clamp onto the new fuel line and bolted that onto the frame (pump end). Now the line is super solid so I think that will work.

I also scraped all of the old carburetor gasket from the intake manifold. It took a couple of hours and lots of carburetor cleaner, but the job is done.

I have the hole plugged until it's time to put on the carb.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

My dad and I started replacing the cab-to-frame bushings. It's great to get my dad's help as he is super experienced in heavy equipment repairs and such (not in sheet metal repairs, alas). Plus, he owned this truck for 20 years before I got it.

First, I opened up the replacement shims with a round file and drill bit. After much discussion, we decided on how the replacements should go. The kit from Classic Heartbeat lacks pointed bolts and I have lost(!) one of the rear originals. We did get the other rear original bolt and its new bushings in and I was able to show him how the cab needs to rotate clockwise to line up for the rest. I just came in from turning a replacement rear bolt to a point so it'll find that cage nut easily. We plan to work on it more tomorrow.

It was satisfying hearing dad agree that the bushings should have been replaced in the 1980's. I had asked him about it when I first came to own the truck but he didn't agree. It's clear he never looked at the bushings before today.

That's cool you can work on the truck with your dad that is the original owner.

Thanks man. I grew up riding in this truck. It came along 2 years before I did and dad drove it until the early 90's (he bought it new, right off the lot. He saw it and he bought it that day).

I love your name.....when it comes time to get a license plate, I may copy your style but for a '72.

Congrats on getting reverse lights! I have to hold my reverse lever upwards for mine to work.

I had my parts delivered to my son at his business office and he brought them to the body guy. These are my rust issues all on one pallet, now to get them sorted and get busy!

Painted my tailgate band. All the black paint came off the repops one. Too much tapping skills for me to do right but I think it looks fine.

Thumbs up Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Out local truck club is having a slalom course day at the Anderson Speedway in Anderson SC in three weeks. One of the safety concerns was if a battery feel over and shorted out due to exposed terminals. Well I took care of that today. I'm ready to go now!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Talking Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Yea some of the guys went riding in the Mts. a couple of weeks ago and one our members battery fell over. That got us all to thinking.
I bought a $11.00 battery box and $3.00 terminal covers and fixed mine with a strap. It's nice and tight. And it can't go anywhere!

Radiator support mounts done, disassembled a little more, dropped off misc. to be powdercoated. Next, fix oil leaks, paint and detail engine and engine compartment.

I waited for part to arrive. Man this is getting old. Another weekend w/o what I need to finish my project and get my truck back on the road. If I had to endure "paint jail" like some of you all do, I'd go nutz
