Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
Bob what about the orifice tube? where is your located at?
I bought the new evap, installed, only to find out that the fitting was "different" and it wouldnt fit into the inline orifice tube fitting.. so thinking that I didnt get the right one, I took it off and returned... but now that I think about it, doesnt the orfice tube "lock" into the evaporator line in the oem style.... thinking about now,, i think my truck had a "repair" kit with a compression fitting on the evap. and a inline orifice tube... d*mn,, I have to go back and get the evap. again and install it again. on a good note.. the tire shop called .. the chrome 338 are here...

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
The orifice tube goes into the evaporator, lower fitting (inlet), and the end with the small screen goes into the evap first.
What year is your truck again?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
84, OK, should be the same as mine then. This is the only pic
I have of the line , but you can see the aluminum line, the red cap on the R134A conversion fitting, then the fitting on the line at the evap.

Hey Bob,
What ever happened to being able to run E85 in "Fred'? I'm getting ready to start my swap and remembered at one time you were going to do that. |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
I still plan on it, but a little later on. It's a $500 add on, and I just haven't put it in the budget yet. I have some house things to fix, and we are expanding our gym to include some outdoor equipment, so I'm spending some cash elsewhere right now. But I still plan on doing it.

That will be cool Bob, are you going to run a sensor for the E85 then? Or is your PCM already a Flex Fuel VIN?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
I'll be using an add-on unit from this place: http://www.ffie85.com/
A friend of mine that builds drag engines, and specializes in building fuel systems for them to run E85 and E98, has used one of those kits on his truck for many years with very good results.

Quote:
Measure the tank, then measure it again! Then compare to where it would sit inside your frame. I think the frames on the 99 and up are wider than the 73-87's, but I can't be certain. The other way would be to get the tank, strip it down, and stuff it up in there and see what happens. It might interfere with the driveshaft, crossmembers, etc. Remember, the 99 and up tanks are on the inside of the frame. My first thought it that no, it won't fit. But without having one to try for myself, I can't be sure.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
for what it's worth, a 87 fuel tank is less than 80 bucks on rock auto. yeah, its a spectre. but it fits and isnt full of rust. (hopefully)

But Bob, nobody who knows anything will think you use VatoZone for Fred. He doesn't have any cheap plastichrome stick on crap all over him.

I wish I could find e85 here. Only 1 station in town has it and the price difference would take a long time to justify the expense. Of course I am not going to complain regular was 2.54 yesterday. Jay
