Love that truck Tyler. Can you tell me the specifics on your bag setup? how much rear notch, did you do anything to the rear fenders...

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
Quick question: I'm nearly ready for paint, and I'm thinking about painting it myself, always wanted to try. How much paint will I need for a crewcab longbed fleetside? I'm guessing about 2 gallons because it's so big, but I really have no idea. Truck is almost entirely black already, except for four grey primer doors. What's a good sturdy paint to use (black) that will stand up to working and winter driving? Never going to be a show truck, just want it to look halfway pretty and all one color.
Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I figured it would be the quickest place to find someone who knows. Last edited by DetroitDan; 10-14-2010 at 12:17 AM. |

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
the inside of the rear notch is 1 1/2 over the top of the frame i dont know what size that would make it and it is a parallel 4 link with panhard bar and bag behind axle. the front is just an an 8 inch i.d. pipe recessed into the lower arm. RE7's in front and RE8's in the back pretty simple setup.
I did not do anything to the rear fenders it would lay frame on a 32 tall tire and just barely clear the top of the dually fender i mean like 1/4 of an inch. heres a picture of my notch right after i got it all together. i have since broke the driver side shock mount

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
Maybe it's there to keep engine temps up, looks like it wouldn't let enough air through imo. I have two spares already, one on each side in the rear. I had another one underneath in the back, but its so tiny its not worth having.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
I believe that they are the billet specialties talladega. They had a couple diff designs of that wheel. I looked at them when I got wheels for my nova. I ende up with intro twisted vista instead.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
i dont have very many more pictures of my truck on this computer, ill try to post some more when i get them. but the truck is sitting on 35x14.5x15's the front dana 44 is out of a 1977 ford 1/2 ton and the rear dana 60 is out of a mid 90's, i believe, dodge. the front does have coil springs with the ford spring buckets that have had a total of 7 or so inches cut out of them.the rear is a 4 inch spring lift with a 4 inch block. this set up brings the truck around to about an 8 inch lift. i had also went with the ford front axle because the truck will be getting a 24 valve cummins and an nv 4500/np 205 swap in its near future
the interior i have came out of my dads crew when he got newer stuff except for my 4 captains chairs which i got out of a dead astro van i forgot to mention that i paid $250 for my cab as a 2 wheel drive, had a 4wd frame in our yard every thing else i have got from either vehicles that my father and i have collected or the scrap yard. so far the total bill for this truck is $415.83 that in cludes two 10 pound spools of welding wire that i bought for my dads wire feed

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs
I can understand the need to move the front diff to accomodate the t-case swap, but why would you use a half ton Ford 44? If you turn up the Cummins I don't know how much faith I'd have in that frontend holding up. And if you don't build the heck out of that Cummins then there's no reason to even bother. A built Cummins is really cool, but stock it's a boat anchor.
iirc the Ford D60 puts the front driveshaft where it belongs, no? |
