i bet it feels good to put on NOS parts thats been itching to get out their boxes, alas i have yet to experience that feeling.

haha....right on. Your time will be coming soon my friend. At least you have the majority of what you need on hand. That's the hard part....sourcing and paying for all of them. The install is easy.

Always weird following on FB and here.

Looking great.

looking at the floor where the trestles are, do you not have a dust problem, or is this just the hardening area for paint?

It's not the ideal place to paint until concrete is in, but I haven't had an issues with the dirt floor yet. The barn is still open front and that's biggest issue I have to deal with, so I have to watch the weather and the wind especially. Normally I place plywood on the floor, and I place paper under parts to paint. Extensive dusting prior to paint and I normally also wet the floor to eliminate any dirt flying up, but the hood is several feet off the ground. (hard to tell in the pics). I do carry a rag to wipe the hose off as I'm working too, but so far the paint has remained around 98% free of any trash. Was also around 90* yesterday, so coats were drying quick. And lots of tack rags in between coats.

I did have one weed seed that blew in yesterday about 15min after final clear coat that stuck to the clear. Hoping it'll come out when I buff.

Concrete will be done hopefully this winter and then I won't have to worry about it.

The hood really turned out beautifully, especially considering the environment where you paint. Nice work!

Thanks Markeb01......seems to just be luck with my painting.....and getting good at reading the weather. Will be glad to paint the fleetside over concrete and not have to paint worrying if it'll come out ok.

And we have a good color match also!!!!!!

The hood looks great. I need to get by and see it in person. I met a guy with a 61 this weekend that I will be helping. He needs a hood hinge if you know where one is.

Thanks, and yeah, I called him last night to see if he was coming down this weekend to help out. I didn't mind moving it around on my own prior to paint, but will need help now.

Thanks Eric. You know I'm around most days. Just call prior to make sure I'm at the house though. Will try and fit in some fishing this weekend, but will need help flipping the hood so I don't dent/scratch it.

Hows your 62 coming along?

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Off late and just too much to catch up on at home. But did get the park lamp assemblies finished paint wise. Pulled another set off another hood I have for the screws and hardware. Should be able to get the assemblies done tonight.

Have all the rubbers waiting to install also, just need a set of hands to help flip the hood.

Don't know about the talent part.......its just taken trial and error. I painted a few cars and took auto body at the local community college after high school to work on a different 63 around 20 years ago. I have painted some small things since, but this build has been the biggest paint job I've undertaken in the last 20 years.

I used to be terrified to paint, but like most things practice will give you what you need to establish your own technique to paint. The mix ratios can be looked up or gotten from the suppliers and the base coat can even be purchased premixed, so just practice after that. The worst thing you can do is have to sand it down and repaint again. And I was just there with the front end a few weeks ago when the color didn't match.

Space can be a big factor for a lot of people. I have the space, but not a proper paint booth, but I have still have good success (err...maybe luck).

Thanks for the positive comments.

Note: I'm just using a 30 gal upright compressor and a lowes mid level HVLP gun, so it can be done at home and with marginal money. I do buy good paint, currently using the PPG Omni line.

It is a skill to be able to paint though. My truck will be my 1st paint job so I'm hoping it goes well. Done tons of study and like you, have painted many small things. Good work. Liking the decal.

Thanks for the comments on the paint and decal TJ.

The only info I can pass on about painting in my opinion is that the clear is where you really have to pay attention. Primer is an easy fix as is base coat. Tack rag good between coats. Prep is everything. If its not right before you paint, it won't be right after. The clear in my opinion is the hardest as you lay the coats over each other and it hardens a little different than the paint, so its much harder to fix issues like trash in the coat once it goes down. I like to go light over heavy and multiple coats so I don't get runs. Runs do happen though and can be buffed, so don't sweat it. Like mentioned before.....its only paint and can be repainted if need be. You'll be fine once you start painting.

Ohhh....and clean the gun good, especially when going from primer to base and base to clear. I like acetone personally.

I've had some experience painting..painted my bed and fenders awhile back. lol But learned the hard way...never use cheap paint. Too thick for sure. But, I wasn't to worried about how it came out then because I just wanted the metal covered. Thanks for the tips.
