Talking Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I figure it's the camera angle but I had to ask.

Your steering column looks like it's out of whack!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

RE : shock absorbers ~

Bilstein HD's top any of the usual Hot Rod brands plus they last even when worked hard .

If you go the KYB route , be aware the silver colored gas KYB's are crap , low quality shyte to sell cheaply , only the white KYB's are any good .

Lotsa nice works here as usual ~ I always enjoy reading what you alls are up to .

I visited my truck in the Paint Jail , as usual , they screwed up something else and tried to blame me , I dropped off my 7th hub cap and he said ' O.K. now i finally have a full set of 5 right ? ' .

Only if his employees are stealing them....

They managed to ' loose ' the original door mirror screws , last time I was there he said (as usual) ' no problem , I have them safely cleaned and ready for paining ' ~ when I went by Thursday I noticed crappo Chinese stainless steel allen headed screws and asked him ' oh , yours were no good and broke coming out ' .

I see he has several 1950's & 1960's vintage GM trucks in there , I surely hope my hard won , unobtanium hardware isn't being re directed ~

I spent the last FIVE YEARS chasing down hardware , every bit of it original and un damaged , he wants to use all new and I don't .

Wait'll you alls see the paint , it's wonderful .

Post AC / Junk Yard ' Fun '

O.K. ;

I supposedly have a restored original AC box coming from Texas , I was in the Yakr this morning and spotted two AC equipped trucks and decided to get to work just in case :

Name: IMG_0940[1].jpg
Views: 674
Size: 51.6 KB This is one of them , apparently I didn't take a pic of the other one before taking it out & apart .

Name: IMG_0941[1].jpg
Views: 654
Size: 37.7 KB this is the intake air flapper , it's usually broken and missing hardware , I took this to remind me how to assemble it properly .

Picked up 2 more 16" rims ( that makes 4) to convert my 70 c20 from 16.5" to 16".

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I installed some new springs to replace the old ones and I'm not sure I like it. Although the new springs are shorter than what was in there mostly due to age I'm sure, the ride height is up an inch or so. (Livable though) The new ones are HD 1/2 ton springs which are most likely c20 like in nature. Took it out for a cruise to see how it drove and it seemed more bouncy in back. I'm hoping a shock swap will settle the rear down somewhat. Truck is lowered with blocks but still see some hauling so I know I'll like the better level load capability of the new vs old worn out springs. Any good shock suggestions?

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Pulled the 12 bolt and got it out to my local bad ass shop...Mark Williams Enterprises for....

- c -clip elimination
- axle lengthening
- 4:11 gears
- install my Eaton Posi & rear cover
- set-up for my CPP big brake package

I can't stand cross brand parts. I'm going to keep this one ALL GM!

also managed to pull the front driveshaft, factory drum brake set-up ( including lines), factory E-brake set-up and trailing arms..guess I better order some replacement bushings for the trailing arms.

Tomorrow is factory rivet grinding day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

took delivery of this baby today. 2013 LC9 5.3l, needs a little love. But, the price was right.

The TR 6060 should be here next week. These LS motors love a little Heads & cam work. I think 450hp will due for now.

Going to have a tropical storm this weekend so I pulled my inner fenders yesterday so I can sand and pain this weekend in the garage (John Deere blitz black). Also plan to rebuild my gauge cluster while I'm stuck inside.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Friday I drained and filled the New Process 435, yesterday and today I greased the front end. I had a missing Zerk on the outer driver's tie rod link, so had to fit a new one. Lots to oil and grease on these old trucks. A must if yours is manual everything...

Thanks for flipping them for me. I didn't preview them before posting. Plus they look much better the correct way.

I am in southern WV.....once I get my truck running, how about all members within 100 miles of us get together for lunch or some beers?

Today I bent a piece of 12-2 wire (just one wire, not all 3) into the shape of how I thought the in-cab fuel line should go. I then bent 3/8 inch tubing to match that. OMGosh it is nearly perfect! I think it would work BUT I have a kinked bend so I am going to try again tomorrow.

I also got the seat bolts coated with rust converter after cleaning in Evaporust for a couple of days.

I did come very close though......but for the kinked bend.

may be a while before I get my truck going... but hopefully I'll have the 62 Impala done by the end of the summer. If not I'd still be happy just to get together sometime.
