Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Bought a new top-post battery for it, got it insured and registered, installed my new PA license plate, installed the 61 hood, park lamps, and harness from American Autowire, seam sealed the passenger side bed panel, fiberglassed the shroud one more time with mat...
Now I need to pull the shroud off the buck, and finish the body work on it before installing, then finish the engine wiring before Dwayne's takes it Monday for final touches, dual exhaust, and inspection. WOW - FOUR YEARS LATER |

took grill off and worked on getting the dents out, cleaned out all the birds nest behind it, will work on the rad support and clean up some rust, lots of it here, will patch some rust holes, and try to get it all back together.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Took my truck in to have mufflers moved further back and exhaust pipes exit behind the tires. NOPE! $440 for that?! Good God!
No way this is typical cost, is it? |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Lowered the rear of the truck with 300 pounds of play sand and two knuckleheads. I am guessing the rear springs are from a Jeep, because they are weak.
Love the leveled look though. |

Looks great. Now you just lower your front end a bit and you'd be Throwin Down Like a Motown Clown.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
got my buddy buckets seat covers from 'Truckseats' on the forum, long wait but look awesome! it's hard to get a pic of the gray just right, but it's a warm gray, light color! also bought a yard of the same gray to get the armrest, sun visors, an half wrap steering wheel covered all in the same gray
they look really good in person

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Martins engine stand came back and now my transmission is mounted on it, awaiting its service, shifting kit and new seals.
We also got the truck back on four wheels, new steering parts fitted, and the drop link etc refitted. One more bit of cleverness from Martins day job, which is always about checking and double checking and legal culpability Is to mark your nuts with red paint. So I went into the house and asked Nicola for some red nail polish....... Every nut and split pin fitted and torqued down was marked so that I can see where things have been done. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY..........!!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
More like this week.... Its been a good one though. Started with some wiring clean up. Wired in a couple of relays to provide full batt voltage to the starter solenoid and the HEI distributor. After 56 years, the under dash wiring is both aged and been altered some, so there's no guarantee that there isn't voltage loss through the system. Short of a complete re-wire/new wiring harness, this is the easiest way to ensure full system voltage to both of these vital parts. Also, added a 0 gauge cable from the battery to the starter, so that pretty well maxes out the available voltage.
Then added a front sway bar from a 67-72 truck to the front end, and then a pair of Bilstein shocks to top it off. The improvement to handling is night and day, and really makes the truck much more fun, and safe, to drive. Especially on the curvy roads here in the Sierra foothills. Like I said, a good week in the life of a truck that been static for a long time. |
