that wire goes to the fuse box, where it powers on when you turn on your lights.

This was put together by the Northwest C10 group (can be found on Facebook) and the cruise was in Enumclaw, WA. It is planned to be there again next Spring.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
This past Tuesday, I pulled the uno barrel carb off my truck to check for a leak. Nothing was wet, but I haven't run it much since November, so everything in the bowl likely leaked out & dried. Found a bolt was missing that held the base part to the midsection. Went on a mad hunt for another screw at every hardware store in town. Had to settle for a bolt. Just got the tags legal on Friday. As long as the weather will cooperate, I'll get the tires dirty tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I picked it up at the detailer. A little before and after.
I hope to get the rockers changed soon and I sure need a nice dark gold tailgate.

I just got all of the front end Porterbuilt level 3 parts hung on my 1970 donor frame. Hoping to finish up the odds and ends this week and start cutting Crossmembers out of the rear end so I can start on that!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
The steering column in my truck has an excessive amount of wear. I had to weld up a groove that was worn deep into shift detent plate a while back just so it wouldn't pop out of park without pulling back on the shift lever. The shift bowl has loads of slop in it. Below is a video that shows the shift bowl looseness. The linkage that connects the column to the transmission was not moving at all in this video. I scored another '68 column out of a low mileage truck that is super nice and doesn't have any looseness or detent plate wear. I disassembled and painted it last night.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Replaced the divorced choke thermostat. I then played with my idle mixture a bit and found it was too rich on one side and blocked on the other. A blast of Gumout took care of the blockage. Mo'bettah now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Replaced my steering column last night with the low mileage unit, and the looseness in the shifting mechanism is gone. The solid 67-68 steering shaft sure makes the column a pain to remove and install!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Replaced my speedometer cable just now. My old one would randomly start bouncing, so I got tired of trying to lube it. I got so lucky on that 1st mounting position in the engine bay. It was more or less finger tight. I thought I was going to have to loosen the outer wheel/fender cover!
Test drive shows the speedometer still working (that's good) and so far no bounce (even better). But I will have to go a month without bouncing to know if it is really gone! Also installed my carb heat shield. Time will tell if it was worth it....

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
In the process of replacing my old stereo which was acting up, with a half stereo that doesn't even have a CD player.
Yes I had butchered the radio opening in the dash long ago, but fortunately and just by luck the replacement has exactly the same size opening...WHEW! May as well throw in a semi "Sideways Saturday" shot of my filthy toy while I'm at it. |
