Paint looks awesome Mike! A friend of mine taught me the sharpie trick too. He does some home paint and body, usually just charge me supplies. He paints, I get to wetsand the flaws and he buffs it out. Good to know people who do auto paint. There is a lot of knowledge that goes into a great paint job.

Thanks and the dust particles likely came from inside the stake pockets. Just another reason I should have shaved them. A very small dust particle gets pretty big when you add clear coat. I would have had so many more if I had painted in my shop.

Thanks. Yes, it's worth the extra effort. It still has some very slight texture in areas but it's way better than right out of the gun.

The bed is done, but the cab is still needing finished. I have all the parts to put the bed back together, lenses, bed wood, chrome trim for lights and wheel wells.

Thanks Dan. That's a huge understatement about knowledge for sure. The guys that do this stuff for a living are wealth of information. There are so many little things Kyle helped me get past. Stuff he had to learn along the way.

idk didn't he clean everything beforehand? I didn't have anything that noticeable when we shot in my brothers garage. Glad you got them knocked down and it shined up awesome

He? Who me? I'm the one that cleaned the truck panels. Like I said the only dust came from my parts. The booth was spotless, immaculate you could eat off the walls and floor clean. It's called a rookie cleaning job in all the crevices....

That's an understatement. Remember the tailgate... Dust cloud. Trust me any contamination came from my panels not being properly cleaned and not the booth. Sorry Kyle.

I believe Mike painted it himself, he just used Kyle's booth. I'm getting that from reading between the lines on post #1689 in page 68 of this thread. I may be mistaken, but if I'm right, the painter did clean the parts before painting

Still looks great Mike! Some trash is hard to avoid, even if you are very meticulous. At least it's sanding/buffing out.

Let's not get off point here, it's distracting from what I was trying to share, and that is a technique to remove trash from the surface using a sharpie as a guide coat. If you don't, there's a high likelihood there will be a small high spot. Yes, I got some debris in my clear, it's part of any paint job.

I prepped the panels as best as I could but obviously, there was some dust lurking inside of stake pockets or came off my sleeves, whatever..... It's going to happen. Maybe not in your brother's garage but pretty much everywhere else.

Thanks Duane, You are spot on, Yes I did all the bodywork all the primer, all the sanding, all the prepping, cleaning, then painting and yes Kyle was kind enough to let me use his spotless facility. Anyone that paints will get dust particle, the majority comes off the painter himself. even Chip Foose has pointed this out on Overhaulin. All you can do is the best you can do.
Keep in mind when I painted and cleared the bed it was deep into the night early morning. Way past the point of give a crap about particles.

Now, let's move on......

ok I won't comment any more about that and I had forgotten that you previously mentioned you had painted with assistance or tips. Obviously your technique works well, but others should also be made aware that cleaning of parts prior to paint, (and/or) primer is essential. Too large of particles could end up falling out when sanded, causing more issues. My brother's garage is far from clean (even when cleaned). He'll usually air hose off and wipe down prior. There's lots to the whole process. Life happens, I get that.

Thanks Scott. The fun part will actually start after all the paint stuff is done. I will finish all the little wiring and parking brake details on the chassis, then install the cab for the last time.
Then do all the wiring, then final assembly...boom then burnouts

Thanks. I was worried the shiny red paint would give me fits in the Oklahoma sunny summers. I used the Medallion Hot Rot satin black , Heck I still have a half a gallon. I need to use it somewhere other than the engine bay

Thanks James for checking out my thread. I know it's very long winded....these projects have a tendency to go from fixing up a driver into a full blown restoration. Dang! there's a bunch of work involved to do one.....

The hood looks great! Nice touch with the dash. Now you just need to worry about the reflection from the hood, especially driving into the sun as evening starts.

Thanks. I totally agree. One of these days we are going to do a beater for my son. I have everything to build it basically. (68 short stepper/or fleet either one). We definitely won't spend near 5 years on it....
