Dropped off the big guns on Friday. Dug the hole Saturday morning and started pushing the barn in. Finished pushing it in on Sunday and last picture is Noon on Monday. Finished it all up by 3pm.

I hate to see an old barn go down, but mother nature forced this one. She was trying to push it down herself. You just gained a big footprint of ground

My comment was tongue & cheek. I guess old paint cans are called hazardous waste in all states. I just find it ironic that the remains of a can are hazardous waste while full cans line the shelves at stores and there is nothing to stop a 6 year old from buying a can. I'm saying they sure use the term hazardous waste loosely. I wasn't sure what the status was for old paint cans but I had heard of a real stringent and "forward moving" local county landfill that tears open trash bags to see if any paint cans are in and rejects those. I figure they like to see them tossed on the side of the road. I've always tossed them in my curbside garbage container and never had a problem. I see people put sawdust in to absorb the fluid.

Here's my peeve. If they are so concerned about excess paint being hazardous waste, then why has it gotten to where buying two quarts costs about what a gallon does? It used to take three, quarts went up. So now, for economics it makes more sense to buy the gallon if you 'might' need to get into the third qt. Environmentally, that has created an excess of waste paint, a lot of half gallons (or more) get tossed

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

My garbage company will take paints as long as they are hard meaning dryed . I've used cat litter to dry it . Guess as long as it cant leach into the soil it's all good . This is for modern paints not the old lead paints. We had a hell of a time getting rid of all the old Sinclair green paint my uncle had from the gas station . Some of the cans were 60 years old. Seems he would get a few gallons for free every year from Sinclair to paint the islands and trim .

Oh wow Leon!

Growing up in NY, I saw a lot of beautiful old barns collapse from snow loads.

That barn was MASSIVE!

Yes, big barn. That Derecho (wind storm) that went through ruined a lot of old barns around here. Now I have a lot more yard to mow...

We are supposed to have 50-70 mile an hour winds again tomorrow. I need to batten down the hatches.... Bummer

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Paid off our primary home yesterday. 8.5 years early from our original 30-year mortgage. Debt free 'cept for the new car we just bought The Queen. And at 1.79% interest, not sure we are in a big hurry to press that one.

It feels pretty damned good.

Congratulations! We're shooting for August 2022... but only to replace it with paying for daycare for the next few years...

I also took out a loan to buy my new Jeep TJ toy... personal loan at 3.1% was too good to pass up, as opposed to using my shop build money I have saved.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yep...easy $$$ these days. But, I have read that some folks are taking out equity loans at the super low rates and throwing the $$$$ at the stock market for the higher returns(?)...Not this kid. I don't mind a friendly game of Texas Hold'em for time to time. But, I wouldn't gamble that kind of $$$ in the stock market. My little 'ol portfolio gives me plenty enough heart burn as it is.

And childcare? I can't believe how expensive that has become. Good luck!

Finished up my wife’s Christmas present 4 coats of Carnauba wax . This is Black Walnut . The cherry bowl I started needs a little more drying time it’s at 25% right now . So I made a makeshift kiln dryer ,a box with a 100 watt incandescent bulb .

How did you make out with that wind yesterday? I saw where there were 100 mph winds toppling semis in Colorado Springs and both Kansas and Colo had a major dust storm.

Hey, you forgot the knots! . Nice job on a beautiful piece of wood. Good idea for the kiln. I'm wondering how an infrared heater would work, set low of course.

It's working well I had to change out the bulb. Was to warm I changed out to a 60 watt . Got a few cracks on the edge lost about 6 oz in 24 hours so I coated the edges with some sealer to slow the thinner areas from drying to quickly .

Got lucky on this one. Just went out for a look around and no major damage. One small piece of fascia gone on the house and a few things blown around. Peak gust here was 70 mph. Good deal!

5 tornados reported in Western Iowa.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That was a nasty wind. Glad you were spared any serious damage. When we had that derecho come through here, my place was just outside its path. I was away in WVA for the weekend and the windows were open. Where I was got hit, but I was in a low area so it just shook the Jimmy up that I was sleeping in. But all around there was damage and power was out, like 8 powerline poles snapped in a row. I was at a flea market and the next morning no vendors were showing up. I was concerned about my house, but when I got home it didn't even look like any rain blew in.

OK, on a more positive note, I baked Sugar Cookies this morning. I wanted to start at 5am but the wife was still sleeping and I make a LOT of noise when I do anything in the kitchen. I'm not your conventional cookie baker so you never know what they are going to look like.

Doesn't look like a lot of cookies but somehow some of the dough and a few cookies disappeared during the process....... The recipe says it makes about 40 cookies. I must have made them bigger than they did....

I have the same problem when I cook. Somehow the food just disappears. I don't know how. I plead the 5th.

Hung out with my grandson today. His daycare has been closed since the beginning of December. Staff tested positive for COVID so it’s been an enjoyable few weeks . They are suppose to open Monday

Last day of school for most kids. Those with A's, B's, and C's with no more than 4 absences this semester are done today. My Geometry classes made snowflakes. Here's my bulletin board with those snowflakes. I think they did a good job.
