Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I bolted the brake pedal assembly and steering column in my bare cab. Now all the parts I own are installed on my truck... oops almost. I own a super track bar and a shock re-locator kit but no chassis so those will have to wait.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Picked up my chassis, engine crossmember and trailing arms from the sandblaster. Then, we started cleaning the upper/lower control arms by soaking them in a soapy degreaser solution, followed by a power washing. Then, I disassembled the rear brakes on both sides, down to the backing plates. We pulled the cover off of the rear axle, in preparation to pull the axle shafts and replace the 42-year old axle seals....the right one has been leaking ever since I got the truck in '99, and was the reason that the brake would lock up in a hard stop situation.

Next weekend, we'll finish the control arm cleaning (after a week-long soak), and do some spot-sandblasting before we prep/paint them. Gonna paint the chassis, too.

The fun has begun...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Come to find out my brake lights have been staying on while I'm driving. Adjusted the brake pedal switched and did some more cruising around today.
Got lots of thumbs ups on the road.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put the GMC emblem that I found in a broken grill laying next to my mailbox in the tube grill in my 71.

I was going to weld up the holes in the hood but it's raining outside now.

The truck has a two headlight grill because I couldn't find a four headlight grill and front end when my aunt wrecked the truck 20 something years ago.

I think it looks cleaner with the GMC logo centered in the Chevy grill. The stock grill and emblem is kinda busy lookin' IMO.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Installed the new stereo. Still waiting for the kick panels so I can install the front speakers. Turned out pretty good and I didn't have to cut my dash. Only bad part is the remote doesn't work thru the glovebox door. I was hopeing it would!

When I was over at Wes's shop www.classicheartbeat.com he had some interesting kick panels that take six inch round speakers I think but may take smaller ones. I haven't got to the install sound part of working on my 71 yet so haven't picked up a set.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

It's been a productive weekend

Installed my new crate motor
Dialed in my 700r4
Connected my relocated tailgate handle
Plugged holes in firewall
Painted the screen on my cowl hood and bolted on the truck
Began installing passenger door parts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I bought some kicks w/ 6 1/2 cut outs for speakers from the truckandcarshop.com. I think they were around 70 bucks. Hopefully they come in next week so I can finish the install next weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Started it up and let it clear up a bit. Put a 35 back on the front passenger side and organized all my parts that are in the back of it. Oh, and I took about 20 gallons of diesel from it and put it in my dodge engine donor. (out of cash, needed fuel and the burb has a 50 gal in her).

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Gutted it up and went to the shop to finish the rear brake shoe replacement on the passenger side. Nasty job. I gotta go with rear disks some day.

Put caps on the rear Boss 338 20's using some black silicone on the "o" rings; Torqued down the 1" spacers to 95 lbs.; Painted the inner rear fender wells
with gloss black to go with the flat black rat-exterior. Painted the drums gloss black, too. Put the wheels on the back for now... just to get them out of the way.
Okay, okay. I wanted to see them on the truck again.

Another mock-up on the dash with the new tilt installed.

Put a lazer-sight on my .380...
Oops! That's another Forum....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My daughter took me and the truck to get some limestone block so she could redo the planters out in front of house.

Of coarse she sat in the truck eating candy, while dad loaded the 436 lbs of block... smart kid!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Worked on my speedo gear today. Used one of the FAQ's on the site to determine the right drive gear and driven gear and then ordered the parts. Pulled the drive line and tranny tail shaft housing to get to the gears. Pretty straightforward and easy to do with some help from the board. Figured out I got 3.73 rearend. Also figured out I have a leaky pinion seal. I think I will fix that tomorrow since I've got the drive shaft out.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Well I'm having my Interior completly re-done,
so I bought a "Billet Steering Column Dress-up Kit".
Turns out that my 4 way Flasher button (Red one on mt Column),
is part of the switch, so my "Billet 4 Way Flasher Knob" wont work.
.......That is until TODAY, when I found out the Signal Cam & Switch were Broken/Cracked.
The replacment switch has provisions to use the "screw in Billet knob".
