Re: A '54 named Busty
Yeah. Nice stuff he builds. Let's see him do that with 18ga steel, a claw hammer and a piece of firewood. Haha
I built a power unit for my bead roller from an old starter, a flex plate, an electric drill, some scrap metal and some bike brake cable I had laying around the shop. I bought a center shaft adapter for a pulley/sprockey to mount the flex plate, one of those weld on style you get from farm equipment places. You're gonna have fun with it. Try some thin metal first to get the hang of it, spacing the dies differently and how that affects the shape etc |

Re: A '54 named Busty
here's a few pics of my el cheapo deluxe modified bead roller. the extra steel is to help keep the upper and lower part from flexing when rolling thicker sheet. you can see some of my home made dies as well. made from necessity when i couldn't wait for the dies to ship. hey, they worked for what I needed that day. building the tool is half the fun anyway, lol.
no wonder my project truck isn't done yet. haha. starter is gutted and the body shortened so shaft would stick through the rear end of it in order for the drill to grab on. variable speed low rpm drill. 1/2" is overkill but most 3/8 or 1/4" ones run too fast plus they wouldn't fit the shaft size of the starter in their chuck. this was before I invested in a cordless drill set. maybe upgrade that mount to fit the cordless drill one day. it's a heavy thing but it works. |

Re: A '54 named Busty
thin aluminum is even easier to get the hang of things for practice. steel is just cheaper.

Re: A '54 named Busty
Prolly could do either. I was using what I had the day of. Some guts adapt a DC motor from a treadmill but that was more time than I wanted to spend.
