Hey, you could ride in the truck on the trailer and pretend you're driving.

BTW, happy belated Fathers Day to you, too .

Re: 1968

Today, I located my speedometer cable. I cleaned it up and painted I and mounted it back on the truck. Then I started to build some flat shims, that goes behind the hinges.
Up till now every thing was mounting great. Except the right side door(pass side). There is a 1/2 inch gap that can not be adjusted out. So, it finally caught up with me on the (not welding braces inside of the cab). Everyone warned me, but then it was too late.
No having experience in doing this kind of a job, well I have to deal with it now. The only way I see out of this is divide the space between the hinge side and the latch side. So I will be putting a 1/8 inch think plate behind the hinge so that it will shift the door towards the latch side. If this makes since. I can't see any other way to solve this except for taking the rockers off and doing a lot of cutting and welding and grinding. That is not going to happen.
Any other way please tell me. I will post before and after pictures tomorrow maybe.

Re: 1968

George measure both doors and make sure they are the same dimensions from front to back because it's possible you got a hold of a door that has been lengthened or shortened in the past, if they are the same then measure the gap between the A-pillar and B-pillar at the top and bottom on both sides, you just need to do a little bit of trouble shooting to figure out where the problem actually is so you know what your options are.

Re: 1968

Yea I measured them a while back and the opening on the right side is 1/4 wider than the left side. I did not measure the doors I guess I will do that tomorrow or Monday thanks for suggesting that. The doors did come off two different donor trucks.

Re: 1968

George 1/4" is nothing I think you can adjust that out by rotating the cab slightly to compensate.
No one will be able to tell the difference.

Re: 1968

I measured the door today. one is 39 3/8 drivers side and the pass side is 39 3/8. But the openings are a lot different. Left side is 38 3/4 and the right side is 39 3/8 that's 1 3/8 difference from one side to another. That's the same side I replaced the pillows on. I guess I didn't weld the pillows in the right place. or measurements. so now I guess I will try with the spacers on the hinges. See if that works.

Re: 1968

Wow George that's a pretty big difference between the two sides, it's no wonder you are having serious gap issues. What I can't figure out is how two identical rockers fit on both sides without modifications on one side or the other if you have that much of a difference in length. I'm completely baffled did you have to section one of the rockers and lengthen or shorten it?

No I didn't have a problem with that. I talked to your buddy Vic VIA PM and he said the same thing about putting a plate in behind the hinge. He said to start with a body shim and see how much I really needed. Then build the plates. It sounds like he has had this problem before. So I will start with a few body shims and go from there.

Re: 1968

I'm not sure where you were measuring, George, but my door openings are at least as far off as yours. I had my doors back on it and got the latch and everything working really well, but I'm not too picky about my gaps being perfect with Mustard. I'm sure you'll get it figured out. I imagine there are lots of trucks with spacers under the striker plate and/or hinges. I didn't even think about it, I just put them back in...

but with a inch of spacers the door don't seal with the rubber enough. I set inside the cab and I can se day light on the back of the door. If I can see day light then water can also get in the cab.

Re: 1968

I haven't done anything yet. I just got a hinge the other day from a fellow board member.
I didn't want to move the adjustment I have so I didn't remove the hinges on the truck. I will be making some plates in the next couple days. I talked to Vic the other day and he thinks it will work. But it has been so hot here that I didn't do anything on the truck. But I will soon. mid 90's

Re: 1968

Topped out in the low 70s here today. Much colder than normal, though. It could stay this temperature all summer for all I care. Mid 90s wouldn't be out of the question here this time of year, either. On the hot side, but possible.

I am installing the wind shield in the truck this Wednesday. I got a guy that will install it for me. I tried and I just couldn't do it. My back is just not strong enough.

Re: 1968

Yea I know. I tried two times and once with another guy. We both did not know anything about installing the wind shield. I did install the rubber seal on the glass with a piece of rope. But it still would not work. So I am leaving it up to a Pro. He has installed them for years. so 75.00 wasn't that bad I guess. We will see Wednesday.
