That building looks familiar. Was it the store in the first Tremors movie?? Remodeled? ;-)

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

with a little work i was able to uncover this on the roof. unfortunately the roof is the only spot that look like this. its not rust, it appears to be red primer. the rest of the truck's paint has some patina but not as good. i think the patina comes from a poor pain job and not so much time. the previous owner used metallic blue rattle can (not even close to matching the color) to cover up surface rust. i got that off with mineral spirits, steel wool, and elbow grease.

I don't know about your theory that patina comes from a poor paint job and not so much time. Are you saying that factory paint was poor, and that 45 years in the sun and elements doesn't have much impact?

I think what you're seeing with your paint, is the lighter blue factory paint under a darker blue that was painted on by someone else. The pinkish red primer is likely factory primer

Patina ( at least real patina) isn't fading away , we're just to busy driving the wheels off them to be posting stuff all the time!

Mister-B, just priming the severe rust areas, like the area beneath the doors. The rest of the truck will get a "comet" bath so I can work on it with out the oxidation rubbing off on my clothes and hands! LOL

Dennis in Calif PS (No the home in my original post is not from "Tremors" although I don't live far from where the movie was made)

Careful with the comet. That may be a little harsh. Try a product called Maguires Cleaner Wax. Very easy to use, and I was able to get rid of the chalky oxidation, get a nice shine on my patina truck and put a layer of protection over it.

Here are some pics from a week ago, after I used the Maguires on it

Very nice truck, but I'm wondering just how original that patina is. They admit "original patina has been scuffed and cleared". I don't get why the primer on the hood is black, and the primer on the roof is the pinkish salmon color.

The red one next to it is a 1959 Ford short bed fleet side. It ran and drove when it was parked.

My 69 C10 has the same colors under the paint (rust red on the roof and black on the hood), although my truck has been repainted at least once in its life. Anyway, did you see the turn signal indicator on that truck.

Well, I've got a '69 too, and it appears to be original paint, but it has the lighter colored primer on the hood.

I wonder what the explanation is? Did the factory use different shades of primer for whatever reason?

Do you mean the turn signal lever? The screw driver? Lol. Pretty unique

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Mister-B, GM did use different primers on different parts, the black was an e-coat if I'm not mistaken. The cabs were primed with a spray on primer, while the fenders were dipped, possibly due to the cab not being able to be dipped in the black e-coat? I have seen a number of these trucks with different primers on the same truck under OG paint.
