Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Not much to report today. Got home late last night. Went to check for any coolant leaks and sure enough....found a pinhole on the lower heater line. No big deal, but stainless steel makes it a 20 min job to trim the line now. Line is fixed and reinstalled. Will check again tonight after work. Hit 102* yesterday and close to the same today which just makes it miserable outside.

Think I'll just stay in and finish the valve cover tonight.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

We've had 100*+ days since late last week.

Did get my brake line fitting in yesterday so got it installed and the brakes are sealed up. So need to fill and bleed them.

Your truck is really looking good! I'm making a list now of some guys to reach out to if I can find the space/time/ money to do a frame off resto on my 66. You definitely made that list. Will be spending more time on your build page, for sure.

Awesome Work!

Thanks for the kind words. Please feel free to contact me day or night and I'd be glad to help where I can.

Also....I was up in Winchester.....back in Oct I believe. Up at the North South skirmish association. My father is a gunsmith and FFL dealer and had some trades going on so we went up for the day. I also lived in Tidewater from 1999-2006

ANYTIME you get back in the area I would really enjoy getting to meet you and other forum members, have not been able to find anyone close by so far.

I am about to have the pleasure of meeting Lugnutz65chevy. Really looking forward to hanging out and talking trucks.

How many people are you expecting for you July 4th get together? Think it would be about an 8hr ride for me.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

So far up to around 20 people and 5-6 vehicles. Kinda got thrown together at the last minute. A lot of peoples trucks off the road right now getting work done. Mine included. Hoping to have the engine fired off by then though.

Will try and do another when it cools off....maybe Septemberish.

Lugnutz65 is a great dude.....helped me find my other 63.....is a short fleet big back window. Will be the next project after the stepside.

And will definitely let you know when heading back up that way!!!

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Well....all the rain has been a big slow down.

Did get a few hours in on the buffer with the driver side cover. I think another hour tonight and it'll be ready for paint. This one has more flaws in the casting than the other, so the finish won't be quite as good, but I'll get it to pop.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

And heres a before pic with the 4 coats of paint prior to starting the work.

Were painted black, silver, orange and silver again. A lot of stripping, sanding and polishing. I'm probably up to around 30-35 hours per cover from start to finish.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Another small problem fixed. Been working out the bugs on the throttle assembly. Was able to salvage the OEM cab mount and throttle rod. Did have to order a 1/4" heim joint and retap the end of the rod to 1/4" coarse. Also had to drill the carb mount out to 1/4" to accept the heim, but all hooked up and feels nice and smooth.

Also got some more time in on the valve cover. Should have the last of the polishing done tonight and taped for paint.

Thanks. I've tried to keep it as uncluttered as possible. I need to do a good cleaning. Have been continuing to make progress under the hood, but haven't taken the time to clean up yet. Was a moot point without the hood on. But I need to get it cleaned up now. The heat has been a big hold up lately. The last few weeks we've been at 100* + and around 105* with the heat index.

The truck is under the carport but the heat still slows me down until it starts to cool down around 7pm.

Thanks, and yeah....that's the downside of wanting a "pretty engine bay" as my wife calls it.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Its no problem. Once I fixed the bracket clearance I realized the hole on the carb bracket I was going to use was for the push style system and ours pulls the throttle back.....so did some online image searches and found the ball/stud style helm on ebay for like $4 shipped. Had to drill out rhe carb bracket, but its all buttoned up and feels good.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Finally got the call I've been waiting on. American Autowire just called and my new harness is enroute. Should see either Saturday (if I'm lucky) or Monday. So goal is to get the engine to fire over the 4th of July holiday.

Nothing done yesterday. Had to go pick up a new project from my father in laws house, so wasn't home until around 930 last night. 16' Fisher Hawk Special 40hp and 40# thrust trollin motor.

Crappy pic, was late. I've got a pic of the internet that's the same model as mine too show what it will look like when cleaned up.

Will need new carpets and seats redone. Batteries still good even though sitting for 3 years. Will need a new water pump and tires, which is a pretty easy fix and shake down any other little gremlins I come across.
