I believe this is the story of how a tailgate that nice can be found:

That tailgate was probably removed in 1980 when the original owner bought a camper and put it on the truck. He died and then the widow after a few years sold the truck with the camper on it. She was probably asked about the tailgate but had no idea where it was.

Now the widow dies, or goes to a home and when they sell the old place, the new home owner finds the tailgate in a shed or in the barn.

El Minty tailgate. I'd build a display case/wall hanging device and leave it be.

what a smoking deal for original paint 1971 gate in that condition!

I'd have to buy a blue truck to put it on

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds Part 2

In 1972 a local trader bought a new Cheyenne Super. He was pulling gooseneck trailers with the truck, so he removed the tailgate and put it in the barn. He overheated the transmission and caught the truck on fire, and it burned to the ground.

A couple of us knew the tailgate was there, but a friend of mine was the one that caught him on the right day.

72 Camper Special $4000. Not mine. Nice entry fee on this one. Someone should decipher the SPID to determine what the paint color was on day one. It looks as if it was silver and white.

It's common for the Medium Olive to fade to that silverish color.

Exactly. This one was medium olive, sun baked for 20 years in the NE California high desert.

72 C10 Custom Deluxe Highlander YG8 402 (now 454) $12K
Dark Yellow w/orange plaid, good combo. I don't see many dark yellow trucks these days, great color. It always makes me nervous when a seller includes lots of pictures - but all of the same side of the truck.. But, ya never know.

The only hint of the seat cover is in the last picture - no others. Not sure seller knows it's a Highlander - but the selling price seems to know.
Looks very original, even down to the PA1s!

70 C2500 Custom Camper $19.5K (ebay starting bid)
Now that's real-tina, I like it
And I've always liked the two-tone (blue in this case) GMC dash treatments. Those mirrors would have to go... (I don't see original mirror mount holes, hmm - considering the truck was originally med blue, that must be a really, really old repaint)

I really like it too. I agree on the mirrors.

I look at these prices and think I originally bought my Longhorn for parts.

Has anyone actually seen a dark yellow highlander with the orange plaid? I'm not sure how attractive that combination would be.

Thanks for posting Jocko! I like this one too. Appears to be a very solid 3/4 ton with good options. Inflation or something ( everything is a collectors item) is really taken its toll, remember trucks like these were starting at 6k about 10 years ago. At 8-10k it would be worth purchasing and doing a high end paint job back to the original colors. Then it might be in the 19.5K category.

I think it would be fine - here's an example of orange in a LIGHT yellow truck. I think the dark yellow would look better, or maybe at least a closer match, than the light yellow. I think both look good

I'm probably not the best judge of color. After all I did buy a purple and silver Burban with a green interior. a
Thanks for posting the photo. It looks better than I had imagined.

Something kinky here. So YG7 is the No A/C Highlander Package. Now the posted interior pic shows a Factory A/C Centre Vent yet the HVAC controls are for a non A/C Truck. Maybe if I would have seen all the pics in the ad better explained as ad is down now.
