Location,location,location.....
Fourth possible mounting spot. Considered face of heater box, passenger side kick panel, firewall behind glovebox, and now inside glovebox. Leaning towards inside, making new sheetmetal glovebox/pcm mount 20121109_105059 by jarosaj, on Flickr

Re: PO has me PO'd
In my old show truck s10 I used the glove box to hold my pcm, HATED IT. I would suggest behind and under the dash.

I refused to take it, and he ordered another one that arrived on thursday. Just left a untrusting feeling, but he did make it right. I wasnt going to say anything, but since you asked. I have found another speed shop in my area with a dyno, so i will be using him for the final tune Finally, i have an idea of where to mount it....passenger side kick panel. Thanks Dale

Re: PO has me PO'd
Mocked up to see where the rest of the harness will lay. First attempt, pcm was to high, and interfered with the bottom of the dash
Using the holes for the heater control, and a tab on the heater box If i mounted it on the kickpanel, there was a chance water would drip on it, so im going to try it here 20121111_224030 by jarosaj, on Flickr

Re: PO has me PO'd
Dale 99, wonder if i could ask another favor, pic...
Need to know where your MAP sensor is located, maybe even a pic of the bracket. 1985 didnt have a boss on the plenum for the bracket. So, i have to come up with a mod. Your coil mount inspired me to copy it...ty

Re: PO has me PO'd
My upper plenum is the correct for my year, 90-92, so it has a threaded boss for the bracket on what would be the rear, right side. It has an L-shaped bracket. I made one out of aluminum for a year or so, tell I found a GM one. The map has an elbow that comes out the bottom, and goes right into a vac port.... which your 85 wont have as you mentioned.
You can t some of that off, or I have seen people drill/tap the plenum for extra ports. Or a popular mod is to move the IAT sensor from the bottom of the plenum into the air stream, and then put a hose barb there for more vac ports. I dont have car with me at moment, so I cant take pics. Will check in a min to see if one of my facebook pics shows it. :edit: nope, will have to take one for you later. |

port, was going to use that. Your right, parts are hard to find, i do have a 'L' shaped bracket that i havent found the home for yet, maybe ill get lucky and it will be my map sensor bracket Found new tpi parts supplier, just nothing for used parts. Been hanging out at the FAST XFI forum, asking questions and reading. Starting to get a grasp on all this new terminolgy, and what goes where Take your time on the pic, as i have lots of other things to work on Edit...the IAT location may be an option, since i need another port for my brake booster

Re: PO has me PO'd
post a pic of the questionable bracket.
brake booster goes in the left rear of the plenum. Kinda gets in the way of the spark plug wires. |

The runners really helped on the upper rpm range. Most people say TPI chokes out at about 4500, Ive spun this thing up to 5800. crate 350 alumn vette heads LT1 cam stamped rockers(tried full rollers and couldnt make them stay tight) ported vette base intake large port runners modified plenum (got rid of egr wall and hogged out for larger runners) stock throttle body, but added splitter 0411 pcm swap stock air intake (heres my choke) aluminum crank/alt pully Id like to get the base intake you have, but for stock heads.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Nice improvements to the engine, Dale. Ill look into the egr mod. Found the ac delco map senser at tpi parts.net
Picked up the harness from my coil to the distri. there too I see a boss on the plenum at the location you indicated, heres the mystery bracket. Where did you find your map bracket, still searching the net 20121116_111430 by jarosaj, on Flickr

Re: PO has me PO'd
Ive never seen a bracket like that before.
You "could" drill n tap that, but your taking a risk of a vac leak. I would look at mounting it else where, like maybe on the same bracket as the coil? You depend on how long your wires are for it. |

Re: PO has me PO'd
I was saying to mount both away from the motor on a custom bracket. But the coil is self grounding, so it needs to be on metal.
