no, there is a small bracket that bolts to the frame in the hole in the top of each end of the frame.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Did some more interior work. Put on the new dash bezel with the painted gauge cluster. Installed the knobs that I cleared the other day. Installed an electric pump in my winshield washer jar, ran new wires to it and plugged it into my OEM wiper switch. Shorted out my light switch cause now the tail and dash lights stay on whenever I turn the key on. I guess I will pick up a new one tomorrow and put it in. Hopefully it will fix that problem. Here are some dash pics.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Pulled out just about every inch of spaghetti and started mapping out my new Painless 18 ct. kit. So, this will be my "what i did to my truck today" for about the next month. Also I started tearing down the air system for new bags, valves, and steel braided lines while i have the bed off

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I set the pinion angel on my 9" rearend. Removed the rearend and trailing arms. Cleaned the trailing arms. Finish welded the perches on the rearend. Welded the trailing arms together, top and bottom. Painted the rearend and trailing arms. Replaced the trailing arm bushings with urethane and put it all back together.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Painted the frame rails, trailing arms and engine crossmember. Tomorrow, we'll flip the frame over and get what we missed.

My son is a hammer...drives me like a nail! We've done more in the past 2 months, than had been done in 2 years.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Did some work on the leaf to coil swap that I started a few days ago. Got some rivets out then removed the exhaust. Then bolted up all the coil stuff to see how it fits, now I get to dissasemble it and sand and paint it and put it back together. Also have to hit the junk yard and get some misc. parts that I need to complete the swap.

Adjusted the glovebox door striker so I can pop it open with one push of the button. Now I don't have to fight with it to get to my stereo.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Flipped the frame over and painted the bottom of everything we couldn't get to on Sunday afternoon. Learned something, too. If I EVER (!) do this again, I'm not going to brush-paint the chassis, regardless of what kind of paint I use. Rattle-cans or bonafide spray gun....that's the ticket.

Once the parts are sand-blasted....the work begins. Looking forward to the chassis reassembly. I want this thing back on 4 wheels. 4 years is too long to go without my truck. I need a fix.....man.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I finally changed all of the fluids and filters in the "new" '68......I think the oil filter had been on there awhile 'cause it REALLY didn't want to come off.

This is what happens when a stubborn oil filter meets a determined new owner.........and a Vice Grip chain wrench. (nothing else got it to even consider turning.)

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Dropped my 396BB at my local machine/pro shop for evaluation and a complete overhaul. Bought the truck with the engine removed and disassembled. Now I am having the pleasure of having the engine build to my specs.
SO far we are looking at a complete rebuild of the '71 402 heads with new valve guides, valves and seats. The crank will have to go to -.020 and the cylinders will have to go to -.060. The engine and rods will be line bored and balanced. I am also looking to go with a Lunati Voodoo series 60202 mild cam. Not decided wether or not to go with the PO Holley intake and Holley DP (size unknown). I might just go to the Edlebrock mainfold/carb setup for ease of maintanability.

That is all so far.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Worked on the wheeltubs for the rear (actually this was Sunday, but I havent been able to get on here fince then). Got them trimmed to fit real nice to the factory bedsides and floor, and got them tacked in. Just have to finish welding them in, and decide if I am going to leave the rest of the floor open or make a notch cover for it.

This one of the probably 50 times we put them in to check the fit. The factory bedsides have several complex angles in them, so it took a long time to get them just right. They are almost there in this pic, but not quite.

And this is finally tacked in, adn done for the evening.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I pulled my front clip off, relocated the proportioning valve, and started pondering how to keep my steering shaft off of my upper arm when I'm aired out. Still a little stumped. Colin Havens--those tubs look great.
