Love the pics. Electron. You know you can buy that stuff in different lenghts at the store flared on both ends. That would'nt be as fun though. You would think with all the sanding you do you would'nt have finger prints.

Yeah, I bought one with premade flares, but was a little long. Some days I don't have any prints. LOL

Thanks I need the pics microscopic so I can see also.

Almost got the double flare figured out. Got the 55 gas line done, but it didn't turn out as good as my 3rd pratice (Pic).

Your double flares look good Alan after only 3 tries! It does help to put just a drop of oil on the point where the anvil goes into the tube, I know they you aren't supposed to put stuff in the line but just a little lubrication goes a long way towards reducing friction and getting the material to not "prefer" one side over the other, especially with SS it can have some soft and hard spots.

Don't let them make fun of your expertise with the scanning electron microscope photographs, Alan. They're just jealous. I've seen some articles in various car magazines on this art of tubing and it is a skill I'd like to obtain one day. Looks like you're well on your way.

I'll try the oil the next time. My flare tool says it's for copper,aluminum, and steel. I guess it won't do SS. I think I remember that SS requires a different flare tool. Thanks for the advice.

The tool kit instructions shows to be a tad bit more than that. I've tried it there and it didn't work right. Maybe the oil will help it. Thanks for the help.

Thanks, I definately don't feel comfortable yet making double flares yet, but it will come.

Laid the inner bedside patches on the bedside to see what they look like. I love Mar-K products. Very good quality.





The only thing I noticed was there is one square hole missing on the short patch in the middle and 2 missing on the long patch. The one in the corner of the long one might need to be there. I don't know if it's the way they make all of them or did this set get missed. What do ya'll think?

I would imagine it just got missed because that is where it bolts to the cross-sills giving the side the needed support. Thanks for the good pictures, I know where I am getting my patch panels from!

I have looked at several trucks and all of them did not have the square hole at the front near the front bed panel. It is not a cross sill location and also does not have a corresponding hole to line up with on the bed strips. I am interested in knowing where to place this hole if you would be willing to measure it’s location and pass this information on to me. The same situation applies to the rear replacement panel with the hole missing. If you wish, you can drill a round hole in these panels and I will send you a ribbed neck carriage bolt to press into the round holes. As far as the two round holes in your photo, any idea what they are for? Are they on every short box side? Let me know if you want me to send the hardware.

Alan, I just finished reading your ENTIRE build thread! My daughter was born 10 days ago, and she likes to be awake between 3am and 5am, so I've been holding her with a laptop next to me, reading this thread. (She's in my lap right now.) Thanks for providing such good info and taking pics! I've learned a lot.

But now I'll have to find something else to read. Unless you can provide two hours worth of updates every day? Is that enough motivation for you?

That's gonna be hard to keep you entertained 2 hrs everynight. Not much going on here. Just tinkering a little. Thanks for the motivation. I need to get something going again.

Yes alan, you are correct. the SS requires a 33deg flare while all others are a 45deg flare. there are separate flare tools for ss and standard. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tommy, I haven't heard of a 33 degree, but have heard of a 37. Are there 3 different angles?

you are correct again! Im sorry, I thought 33 but I guess it is 37. I have seen SS flaired to 45deg and seal, but I am not sure how much I would trust it, exp on a brake system.
