Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Now that the bed is off, I cleaned, scraped the exposed frame, pulled the rear tires off and repainted the frame area. Going to start cutting the wood for the bed floor tomorrow and dry fitting it before drilling all the required holes. Then stain followed by multiple coats of marine varnish.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I picked this truck up a few weeks back, it had a few wiring issues that I managed to get solved with help from a few others on here. Installed a better fuse panel then what I had, thanks too Gulffishin!

The white pic is what it looked like when I picked it up but I had to paint it black. I plan on a candy apple red over a gold base with silver flake and a white pinstripe to seperate the black from red like my motorcycle.

It turned out great. The bodywork looks really straight. What type paint did you use?

the cab and front clip were in pretty good shape to begin with no rust on the truck anywhere. The box was the worst part of it and had very minimal mud in it. All I did was scuff it up and paint it.

this was my second time using tractor implement paint but learned from the last time to thin it down more then the actual recommended rate. I sprayed the 65 with 1 gallon paint/32 oz thinner and did 3 coats and used a base coat style spray tip. The rate they recommended was 1 gallon paint/16 oz of thinner and i sprayed it with a primer style gun. It looked decent in pictures but dried sorta grainy i guess. Here is a pic of the 61 I first used implement paint on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Installed a cable type gas pedal out of a 90 in my 60. Was relatively easy, and a big improvement. works great, easy to adjust. Just had to bend the pivot rod to match the 60 and drill a few holes. A good improvement and well worth the time.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Yesterday I pulled my (knocking) engine and trans from the 65 and pulled an engine from a 78 doner truck. Today I got the needed parts swapped over along with adding a T5 and dropped in and bolted up. Tomorrow night should be able to get it all wired up and running. I will have to wait to drive since I have to measure for my new drive shaft.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Spent yesterday and today after work cutting and fitting the Ash boards for the bed, ordered the bed bolt kit, so decided while waiting for them to arrive made a template of the bow tie to route out the wood on the 3 rd board in from each side and going to insert a piece of black walnut into each center betwween the stainless strips and the rear two bolts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well, ended up adjusting the door striker... because I had to, not wanted to...

So here's the story. I put some Dodge Dakota door seals on the driver side, as many had said they work well. Picked them up this weekend at the junk yard. After installing them, I almost could not get the door to close they were so tight. Let the sit in the heat the last couple days but no better. Can't even get the door to close all the way from inside the cab.

Today I decided to remove them. Now there are no seals. Well that's where my problem started. I closed the door and could not get it to open, no matter how hard I pulled. Crawled thru the window to open the other side (no outside lock) and proceeded to remove the door panel. Worked on trying to get the latch to rotate and release the door. No luck. With the wife pulling on the door, I used a prybar to carefully push the door up, thinking it was hanging on the striker. Sure enough the door opened. Verified this was the issue by repeating it again.

Adjusted the striker down and it works as it should. Put a piece of cut off Dakota seal near the striker and now it latch with a solid feel and sit flush with the body. That works until I buy new seals. Man, some times it just doesn't pay to fix something that's not broken...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Found out why none of my rear lights worked finally.....I had grounded the lights to the bed....well, I remembered around lunch today that HEY! The bed sits on rubber pads..so I moved the ground to the frame rail, and voila'....lights!!!!!!

Also finished installing my new Rebel Wire Harness......

She's ready to drive to work tomorrow!

I gassed mine up and then hauled a whole bunch of junk to the dump. Just nice to be out driving.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Fabricated some caster support brackets for my stepside bed. This allows positioning the bed without using my engine hoist.

Makes moving it in and out of my work bay much easier.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Several years ago I upgraded from a Hurst Competition Plus shifter to a Street Super Shifter. The higher mounting and straight rods make the shifter work much nicer, but it also moves the shifter head back several inches which I haven’t been all that happy with. It finally occurred to me a simple adapter could be fabricated to move the shifter handle and also angle it forward at the same time. I worked up a template and transferred the dimensions to a chunk of scrap steel plate. The bottom of the stick moved forward 1 ¼”, while the knob moved forward about 2”, putting it in a much more comfortable position.

Update -

After driving it for a day I realized the knob was a tad too far forward in 3rd gear. Since the adapter raised the stick almost an inch, I went back to the shorter stick and reset the angle about ½” to the rear. While I had the adapter apart, I also cut the upper rear corner off. Although nobody else will ever see it, I thought it looked crappy so a cosmetic improvement was in order. Now all 4 gears are within perfect reach:
