so are you going with the light blue on the first rendering or a different shade of blue?

Really nice job on the sub box, looks great. Are you planning on painting it the same as the body color? The light blue should look great. Can't wait to see it done.

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Nice work as always Mike!

I would add to what Keith was saying about matching silver paint. This is the case with many metallic colors. I have found it's very difficult to get them to match up even when painted from the same gallon. You really have to keep them mixed up since the metal wants to end up at the lower portion of the can.

Your truck will look great no matter what color you choose!

You can avoid this buy buying say 2 gallons of product and mixing them together. So if the truck is hit you are using product from what the truck was painted from. As far as the metal in the can goes a good painter will place the paint on the shaker before he ever puts it in the gun. Silver can be blended and matched but the painter will have to be good and thats why spray outs are important before the paint is ever put on the car ot truck after repair has been made. I see more of these problems with candys and not as many with metallics. Although metallics can be tricky. Also when a car is painted in pieces it is important to paint all the pieces together including the body because the paint is effected by the heat, humidity, air pressure. With solid color there is not as much of an issue as metallics and candys. Maybe this helps not sure but I would not worry to much about repairing the silver as it seems you have a good painter. Just my 2 cents.

Well said and no harm no fowl. I know that as high $$$$ as material can be for these projects sometimes it's not practical to buy that much paint. But heck yeah if you can afford it you're dead on. And your right the "great" painters can match just about any color. Again that goes back to your budget being able to afford one.
Sounds like Mike has struck a deal with a great painter so scratch that part of the equation.

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

If you have a skilled painter that has any experience at all they can repair metalic paint jobs by blending it. You shouldn't be able to tell where the repair is. That camaro obviously had the doors painted seperately. If you want silver then get silver. Some of the advice on here is purely given to truly help, but just because someone can post on this forum doesn't mean that silver cant be matched, or they are an expert on the topic. If that was the case the collision repair industry would only be putting out bad repairs that don't match. If a painter cant blend, or make a repair and have it not show, he should hang it up. Don't base your desicion on wether or not you think it should be repairable or not.
