Re: A '54 named Busty
When I rebuilt my hinges, I welded washers on the end of the springs to prevent them from coming out in the future. Some preventative maintenance

Re: A '54 named Busty
a bit of repair will be required to the hinge, here's a stare and compare of the East side with the West side

Re: A '54 named Busty
Glad it came out with only one beer. That worked. Now for the easy part. Are you going to weld a tab on to replace what the PO cut off or are you going to just get a new base? I stuck with the original arms as I was told they can be different.

I was thinking adjustability or something by pulling the hinge in and out but the hinges only adjust up and down so I don't know |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I don't know what the hole was for, but it may have been used on other GM products that did use it.
I used the vent hole on the R side and made a small hole on the D side and put a bolt in it to help make sure the door doesn't move.

Re: A '54 named Busty
yup, less than 10 minutes of use, not abuse, just allowing the tool to do the work

Re: A '54 named Busty
next up was the task of aparting the hinges, I decided to start with the bottom ones since there is less math involved (ie less moving pieces, these don't have them C clip spring looking thingies)
well the pin was rusted shut so after trying the BFH and the shop press I decided that Escape from Alcatraz was the sound method of separating things up |

Re: A '54 named Busty
thank you brother I knew this was going to be a bit of an ordeal that's why I ignored it and put it off as long as I could, but looking back I should have done them first when I was painting the cab, like you did
