Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I hauled mine to the paint guy this evening! But like a comple idiot I never thought to take pics till I was on the road, so now I have none since my truck is back together .The guy said he would buy an sd card and take some before he starts on it so I'm hoping he doesn't forget. It should be done in a month so I gotta get some stuff ordered and figure out if I wanna reuse the seat that was in it so when I get it back I'll (hopefully) be ready to get right on it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Drove it to pick up stuff for home construction project only to discover my thermosat housing leaks still. I have a crappy chrome one that I stripped the surfaces and also used forma gasket on the reinstall. I let it sit for 2 days before filling the radiator. On the plus side, no speeding tickets today!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Found out that I have a bad lower ball joint on my left front wheel, and you brake line is most likely collapsed too. Those pads were smokin' when I was able to pull over to check 'em.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Actually Sunday, put some gas in it and fired it up for the first time since I added the power brakes, and power steering and new mechanical gauges.
It all worked,,,, I even took it for a quick spin around the block.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Used it to roll a perfectly good travel trailer in the median of Hwy 65 in Pine Bluff Arkansas. Came uncoupled for some reason at 70 while passing a Coleman Dairy truck. Jerked on the safety chains couple times while I tapped my brakes to get off cruise and hit my trailer brake controller to try and straighten it back up. It finally just shoved my rear in the air and drove me into the median and jacknifed then wipped around and rolled. The truck with my Honda 1800 stayed upright and bike stayed put. Glad I used 4 straps.

Luckily no injuries, just my pride. Rear bumper and bracket damaged, as well as rear bed cross brace, but repairable or replacable.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

in the morning i removed the front wheels, hubs, and drums. then i removed the old seals and bearings. then i cleaned the bearings. after lunch i took the bearings to be packed. when i came home i cleaned the wheel hubs. then i pressed a seal in too hard and crushed it so i quit for the day.

The Next Day 3/31/11: the seal isn't designed to sit flush with the hub once its in, about half of its width protrudes above the hub. that's what led me astray yesterday. so today i bought another seal and put it in no problemo. put the hubs and drums back on so i'm done with packing front bearings. if my truck has feelings it should feel ecstatic about its front wheels. nothing left to do there - its got all new brake shoes, drums, cylinders, hoses, and freshly cleaned and packed bearings. when i started this little project, the front brakes had no stopping power whatsoever. they were an abused, neglected mess.

i also put in a new ignition cylinder that uses the same key as the door locks.

my camera acted up (aka "operator problems") so no pics to bore you with.

i decided to edit my post of yesterday. the thread won't go ttt on edits i've noticed.

i may start a project thread of my own so i can keep a record of what i do to my truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got visited by the brown box guy, I finely took the plunge and found some 3/4 Length headers, I will be putting my own finish on these headers since I have done it in the past and they hold up great the way I have done it.

These style headers are for an SBC 88-95 and I did some reading on them fitting for our trucks and the frame has to be notched a slight bit, that was not a big deal for me really it only took about 20 minutes to complete. I am very pleased with the quality of these headers and the low price.

Header is slightly touching the Frame here before Notching the frame a bit

So what is your trick to getting a finish on them that will hold up? I've never had anything work for long.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I put a splitter on the front for the high speed passes I make with the 250. Race ready now.

Looks like it belongs there to me. Someone posted a pic of this adaptation of a Ford part on their truck. I stole their idea. Thanks to whoever it was.
