I worked a while on it after church and got all my suspension brackets fabricated and painted up well. I also mounted my rear air ride sensors up inside the frame rails to protect them as best that I could.

Also seen in the shot is my upper shock mount that was angled the wrong way since I cut it off the frame ahead of the axle and flipped it to the rear. It was going to angle the shock towards the pumpkin instead of towards the outboard area. A buddy told me of a great trick, he said to ream the hole out on one side to get the shock to angle the way you want it, and then weld a thick washer to the side of your reamed hole to create a new tight hole for the shock bolt. Worked like a charm, thanks Chris.

now..... Get back to the Wiring... cause I'm stronging considering picking up an 2010 6.7 Cummins For my truck (I know your not using a diesel but your running alot of wiring an my truck is an 88 and this will be a total custom truck as well) ...and I would be picking your brain on basic wiring questions LOL

Here's what I've got for tonight.

Crazy brackets are grade 8 bolted to the frame and upper bag mounts. It took a while to get all the bolts lined up and tightened down.

Panhard rod is mounted and adjusted for axle centering. I must have cycled the suspension 30 times fitting and checking for clearances.

Bags need their proper bolts and air lines cut to length.

Height sensors need brackets made to connect their arms to the axle.

I have 3 inches of travel before I hit the snubbers. The snubbers hold the frame one quarter inch off of the axle brackets.

I felt honored to get a tour of the shop and a private tour of Young Frankenstein last night. It is really hard to tell from your pictures that you are building a miniature truck... the thing looks tiny up close, who knew an 18-inch foot truck could look so real up close!

I really don't know how much travel I should have for an air bag suspension. Can anyone give me and idea if 3 inches is good or not?

i dont think the length of travel matters as much as running your bags at the proper ride height to get the best ride, i have tons of travel on the rear of mine and according to ride tech my bags should be 10 inches tall at ride height for the best ride quality

My Firestone bags are to be at 8.75 inches at normal ride height which I have done. My question is though, how much travel will they need to hit a big bump and still not contact my snubber? I think of Baja racing trucks that hit huge bumps and float across them smooth as silk, but they have 15 inches of travel to soak it up. I just have no experience here. The bag fully collapses and rolls onto the bottom axle mount with only 2.25 inches of downward travel. When I dump it fully (3") the bag actually wrinkles up in the middle some, so it seems to me the bag only has about 2 inches of safe downward travel. It is hard for me to understand that 2" of travel is going to result in a smooth ride. These are the rolling sleeve type bags that are supposed to ride smoother than double convoluted.

Doesn't sound like enough to me...I'd start a thread in the suspension forum....

I believe it's pressure and height together that are important and allow a comfortable ride....

...most bagged trucks I've seen have 8-10" travel though...

FYI

I am focusing on the rear area of the truck so I can call it done and mount the bed. That would allow me to line up the upper trim all the way down the truck and figure out where to paint the white on my fenders. When I tape up the truck to paint the white I can also do the Al's bedliner.

I am only talking here of course of downward travel, my up travel over a bump would also be 3 inches or so depending on my limit strap or shock length. That would equate to 5 inches total.
