Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Here are some pictures. Will this help? I was thinking of putting the engine in my green truck shown in picture but I think i will just overhaul the 283 that is in there and keep that one and build another truck with the vette engine. I do have a short frame and all the parts to do it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I can't believe how different the truck can look from one week to the next.
Last night I removed the side trim off the truck. I was amazed at just how knackered the trim is. First question is WHY ??? WHY do they need these clips to keep the trim on? How the hell do you get it off the truck without getting a hernia?? BARSTEWARDS !!!!!! These little clips are OK to remove. Leaving the trim in a pile of mangled treasures. While I was in the garage, I looked at the quarter windows, the passenger side is rotten..... now to find a decent replacement. Who said it would be easy. Rusted frame. Drivers side is a lot better, and the rubbers need replacing, but the frame is good. I took a day annual leave today, to fit some hardboard into the rafters of the garage. Hopefully it will help when I get to do the body work, to keep the garage a bit warmer, and also to manage the dust from sanding filler etc. Once I pulled the truck out on the "winter wheels" and minus its side trim, it looked pretty misserable. Went to B&Q Hardware to fetch 8 sheets of hardboard, and some cut timber for framing up the walls I want to put up inside the garage. On the way back, I stopped for some fuel as the needle was dropping very low. It took me the best part of 8 hours of cutting and fetteling to get the the drop down sheets onto the rafters. I still need to tidy up the holes and some of the escapes for the heat, then I will do the walls. Before While I was clearing up the loft area,I found the trucks "aircon/blower" pipes. Merry mix of pipework. After. Getting there bit by bit.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I went to Pick n Pull in San Pablo ,CA and got some seats ....55.00 for a front electric bench seat out od a late model chevy truck ...DEAL !!!! Even thou they are half price tomorrow on the 3 day sale ...they would be gone then and it suppose to rain , rain ....
I put them in the bare cab to see how they fit ...PERFECT !!! the two front holes on the outs sides of each seat line up primo !!! and i was worried about havein to cut and weld the brackets as the late model truck floor was not flat ...BUT,,,my old truck isnt flat too..They fit with only drilling 6 more holes and bolting up with fender washers and nuts.....hurray...... PS....there is another set there in a suburban..they are ok shape ..alittle dirrty and a little worn....but for under $50.00 bucks ..DEAL !!!!! Bring a dolly and rope to tie it to...you have to walk a 1/4 mile back after the gate to reach the trucks....... Tomorrow I go back before dentist appment to get the seat belts with a 12 allen head that I didnt have today ....arrrrrrr Cheers ..... |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Yesterday I pulled the 6 lug rearend out and today I put the 5 lug in including the brake line and the emergency brake cables. If my new metal floor was in my fleetside bed I would love to sit her in place. Also went up front and dropped the lower a arms and pulled the springs. Going to replace the ball joints and rebuild the lower a arm and put her back together. Donor rear end looks like it grew there.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got the rear axle back in after converting to 5 bolt, posi, and 3.73 gears. Bed is mostly on with seven bolts that fit properly. Only problem is they put the wrong size studs in the axle
What would be next likely size down from 1/2"? Hoping I can find uni-lug nuts in that size. Axle is at resting height - going to be a tight fit! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
My truck wasn't ready for the Interstate but decided to go to Turkey Run yesterday... and I'm glad I did! Met so many cool people and saw so many awesome vehicles... Didn't get a chance to see them all but (if i can find the energy) may go back again today.
