Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

Thanks, ya i was kind of inspired by your tangerine ones. And those bubble windows are so cool, at first i was not a fan, but now i really like this style cap with the slanted sides so much better than the slab sided box style ones.
And i really like how light they are to lift on and off. almost a one person job!

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

I found this truck near my home by taking a detour because through an alley because of road repairs. I just noticed the camper says Winnibago over the doors and there is a sticker on it rear left that says assembled by a Saskatchewan company, now defunct I checked, and I wonder does anyone know if Winnebago sold these in boxes and someone had to put them together.

I never liked the bubble windows. I figure if I have windows I want ones that open and privacy is a good thing. Those were for old men. Well, fast forward a few decades and... Hey, who you callin' old? I was going to say "Now I like them for their vintage value"... ok?

Light? I think they are lighter than downtown air! I just got under the middle with my back and walked (slid) it carefully to it's balancing point to get off the back with my son. I could do the whole operation but no need to risk it slipping off making ugly.

Take more detours! I guess Winnebago might have done that for shipping to dealers. Or maybe there were a few regional "authorized assemblers". I had one that was cab-high with the curve running the length of the bed. It was fully insulated and paneled with interior lights... deluxe, and had the woodgrain. It still sits at a friend's farm being used to store junk under. I always look at it thinking I'd like to get it back, but he damaged it pretty well with a tractor or something.

WOW! I have never seen one of those, is that a door inside of a door on the rear? Did you get any pictures of the inside? Thanks for posting, my new favorite thread for sure. Lot of awesome campers here!

Perhaps they were assembled up your way by an company Winnebago contracted with to avoid paying or reduce import fees/tariffs.

Probably shipping had a bearing on that too.

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

Interesting about the Winnebago units being assembled by vendors to say the least. To avoid duty fees may very well be it. But to enable shipping more with less bulk could be another reason. But I don't know if that was done in the states and there are plenty of states plenty far from Winnebago's home.

If that was closer, I’d be out the door right now.

Probably used a set of old tripod camper jacks to take it off.

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

That thing is a perfect small camper for occasional use. The overhead provides a lot of storage out of the way. With it fully enclosed you can store your gear in it while it rests off the truck. I don't like stands hanging off the sides of my trucks anyway. I had free standing tri-pods for my '71 camper truck. I would rig up a sturdy deck height stand for it out of steel pipe to slide it onto.

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

I cannot tell you how much I want to move the NW... That sure looks a lot like the cap on Pete's old GMC.... Hmm.

If anyone just HAPPENS to be driving Wyoming to/thru Texas, I'd make it worth the your while to swing by and pick this up

That cap is correct for the square body as well. But I'm glad he's selling it. I'd buy that one, too.

Not sure if this has been shown.

Yeah I don't understand the 'not correct for the era' comment by the seller either. It's absolutely correct for an early square. Meanwhile, he probably inadvertently discouraged about half of his potential buyers that own squares that may not know enough to know that he's incorrect..

Sexy ain't it? I bet that's some good fiberglass work.

Here's another west coast alumneeya. I don't think I've saved any from this thread, yet.
