I hate to be the buzz kill for you, but rust-free sheet metal is almost non-existent here. It's probably a lot better than what ya'll have, but when they are parked, the humidity does take it's toll.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
well, its been awhile since I posted.... due to the fact that its been awhile since I have touched the truck. I did pick up a nice black steering wheel off Ebay for $30, it has a few small cracks but it's a better start than my original... Decided to finally swap out those crappy motor mounts for a slightly less crappy set (both from India!). Atleast the 7/16" center bolt fits in this set.... Also cleaned up my power steering brackets since I noticed that they go with the motor mounts. Finally installed the "spin-on" fliter too! Hoping to get the carb and HEI back on this week and fire it up again....
It's always motivation to hear them run ya know....

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Decided to work on the ramhorns... Broke out the wire wheel on the grinder to prep for Hot Jet coating.... I'm having trouble with the AIR holes that are plugged in both sides. I'm trying to replace them with alan head plugs but 40 years of heat and rust are working against me....
I also seem to have some kind of alignment problems with the front pulleys.... What did I forget? I measured the old pump with the new and it's only 1/8" difference so it must be something with the crank pully.... any thoughts? Carb is on, HEI is back in.... once the ramhorns are coated then its time for plugs, wires and hopefully starting it again... Oh yeah, my spin-on filter adapter is leaking badly just while priming the engine... Anyone used on of them with success or should I just go back with the canister?

I went the easy route...I bought a set of good used mid-60's corvette rams horns for about $100 delivered. I used both 3747038 RH manifolds since I am using late model alternator brackets...

Any chance you could upload a photo of the carb and throttle cable, kick down cable. I am reinstalling this now and want to make sure it looks good and works right.

mine has a manual tranny so no kickdown cable... and it has a throttle bar not cable since it's a 68. I also swapped the Q-jet for a Holley so it might look different anyway..... sorry

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Is the balancer seated all the way in? It could cause the pulley to be too far out. Is that gun a sand blaster? I am looking for the blaster that hooks to the pressure washers? Looking good!!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
I never removed the balancer... I think that it's the aftermarket el'cheapo water pump from Advanced auto parts. It works for now but I might try to return it later. The little sandblaster does OK but you still eat half the media (reminds me why I hate sandblasting) when it bounces back into your face.
Thanks...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Oh, there's definitely plenty of salvageable parts, its just that a lot of people north of here assume everything is perfect. What we consider badly rusted is usually better than average up there. I noticed on another you were talking about going to Moultrie. I highly recommend. There's always lots of good stuff there. Ft Rucker is only about 2 1/2 hours from here, and there are several good yards here locally that have plenty of 67-72's. When you get down and settled, shoot me a PM and I can show you around if you need some stuff.

67_C-30, I'm not usually afraid of snakes but I will admit that I did jump a bit when I scrolled down and saw that thing.

Anyone know where the clearnce lights can be obtained, I just noticed my truck had them originally, and I am thinking about putting them back.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
The only one's that are identical to mine are in the LMC catalog. Only $37 for a complete set so let me know how they look. Mine are shot so I will be replacing them with the LMC set.
I did get the truck running before I left for school in Alabama. Realized my radiator is shot though... boy, once that pressure started building it was springing leaks like old faithful! I only ran it for about 5 minutes or so... thanks for the words and good luck to everyone over the winter. I just heard that another classmate from flightschool died in the blackhawk crash in Italy. That's two out of 40 in 6 years. sad day...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!
Well, I am back from my Lower Alabama trip now, what a way to spend the winter!
Just picked up a new toy that I got on Ebay. Ready to start working on that cab now! Here's how the truck sat all winter That spin-on oil filter kit leaked like crazy so I went back to the canister type. I would like to get the cab blasted but not sure if the budget will allow that.... More to follow...
