Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

Spent the weekend running wires, chasing loose ends, and second guessing ourselves...but, at the end of it all...we fired the motor off!!

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

We swapped out the CPP drop springs for some LMC, HD, progressive rate, 3/4T, springs...we like these better (stock, LMC, and CPP together in second pic) Gives the burb the rake we were looking for and will handle people/loads much better.

We'll be happy to get 400 or so to the ground...may have a chance to get it on a dyno for some tuning in the future...will know for sure then.

Yea, open headers are fun for a bit ...we're researching exhaust options now though, haven't decided which way to jump yet.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

We're still working down that list, but have crossed a few things off.

My son cleaned/painted the old hinges and the underside the hood before setting it back on with some new (shiny ) springs.

Also test fit some kicker panel covers with speakers in them...gonna take a little bit of trimming to fit perfect but pretty close.

We also finished running the brake lines, braided lines from master down to hard lines at the frame

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

I pulled the rad hold down, support wings, and hood latch off a couple weeks ago to have them ceramic powder coated...I wanted to try and match them to the headers. They aren't quite as shiny as I would have liked, but do have the basic "aluminum" look I wanted.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

my feeling about all those holes is that it makes it to busy in there. it over powers what else is there. just scroll the page down until it blocks it out the rad part. it defines the rest of the eng department more readily . that is just my opinion, it is your truck.
I think that it looked good in the crossmember work that your son did on his truck.

We're all for it, any time/location ideas??

We had an excessive engine vibration and after a bit more research, fiqured out that we had the wrong flexplate...turns out the flexplates for the Gen 6 blocks are specific down to cast or forged cranks .

We had Jeg's send the correct flexplate (a Hay's unit) and borrowed a friends lift to swap it in Fri. night...since we were feeling spoiled being able to stand under the burb to work, we went ahead and replaced all the rear brake lines and rear wheel cylinders (couldn't get a good bleed before).

The boy got a chance to cruise around a bit Sunday after dropping a Sunpro tach on the dash, but we're struggling with a tempermental electric fuel pump set-up...likes to get hot and shut down. We're researching in-tank options now.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

We pulled an all-nighter Fri. and into Sat. and got a few things done.

My boy came in early Fri.and chased down a rear swaybar off a junk yard 84 Camaro...brackets, bar, and all for $25. Earlier last week I bought a Boyd's tank from nomrlz here on the board, that and a by-pass regulator made it in Fri also We also picked up a bit of metal to make a rear hitch...

So we had the burb up on the lift by 7 pm Fri night and pulled it off Sat about the same time...
