Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
Any idea as to details of what aftermarket front end stuff he used. Aftermarket C20 3/4 ton stuff is pretty rare - at least is what I been seeing. CPP is the only one I've seen.
MUCH THANKS!

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
Hello Norm,
Thanks for the nice words about our truck. This is a father son project (with John's capable help) and thus far we are pleased. Now, about the drop spindles. Early on when Justin started to work on this truck he started by getting these 8 lug drop spindles. I checked with him about where they came from. He said there is one company in S. CA that basically makes all the drop spindles (5 lug, 6 lug & 8 lug) sold by the various suppliers. He couldn't recall the name. But there were issues with getting the fit right, especially on the spindle shaft. He went through 2-3 sets before things were finally right. That was 2 years ago. As far as what is out there today I believe that you can get an 8 lug drop spindle/ disc brake kit from Brothers and also performance parts. Google "8 lug drop spindles". Good luck, Rich PS: We normally use a place in San Jose called Power Brake Exchange for all our brake components. For example, the rotors and calipers we used on the 14 bolt (see thread pics) rear came from Power Brake Exchange. Cost $250. I do know those components came from a company named Centric, which is located in Industry, CA. |

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
Rich Thanks for the info. Since I'm located in SoCal - Brothers, CPP, Truck Shop & Classic Industries are all within a 1 hr drive. Will check to see whats available. I picked up my 14 bolt rear disc brake kit (which can be used on the Eaton) on ebay nearly 2 yrs ago. Could not find drums nor eaton conversion kit. But that thanks for the info.
I'm sure others here will be inspired by this build as I have. Too KEWL!

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
What's up guys....Thought we'd bring this topic back up from the dead.
Two weeks ago, Mr Rahn called me and asked if I'd like to go on a road-trip to pick up an engine and tranny for the project. I said sure lets do it. We set off to Pomona last Saturday morning (10hr round trip) to fetch this bad boy. It just so happened that that weekend was the Pomona Swap Meet, which is said to be the largest/baddest show/swap there is in Cali...and it was !! Here are a few (and I mean a few) of the cool rides we seen out there: - We arrived way before the sun, at 3:30 in the morning: - - - After these people moved...we got a shot of this nice 64 - - - - There were a lot of good deals to be found...like these all leather SUV rear seats..perfect for an old truck cab..(just don't ask where they came from)...this guy was best buddies with "Steve the Repo Man" - - - - This was and still is my favorite ride...I have own like 3 in the past...I sure miss them all...64 Impala 9-pass wagon: - - Not sure what Rahn was looking at...mabey the group of men....I do see the 10ply tires I should of bought with wheels...for my SuperDuty..mounted on alum wheels for $300...My current tires are balder than me !! -

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
Yes, I am very cool John! Thanks!
I will be stopping by later today to get that. Did you say 6 pack Corona or Bud lite? You know you need to watch the cals..... Then I head off to see master yoda. This week his crew is finally re-starting the bed bodywork. All I can say is it must be really slow around the shop. LOL Can't really complain, they do good work and the price is right. Once the fleetsides are perfectly straight they'll remove the entire bed and cut/install this filler plate. Then primer the entire bed top and bottom. |

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
OK, the beer was delivered today to John, the part looks great and I visited the twilight zone - aka the bodyshop. Except this visit was different. Instead of walking in and seeing zero progress made I was delighted to see they actually took my suggestion to heart and thought big. For weeks they have dinked around with the left rear tail light area on the LWB fleetside. This bed was damaged in an accident and the tail light area was well, not very straight. I kept thinking this looks like crap.
So, I had these other fleetsides in the shop, already media blasted (this was the LWB bed with wood floor) and I tell them, "cut the bad metal out and replace what you need with that other fleetside piece". Go to work! To start, here is the donor panel Here is the outcome so far... |

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build
I didn't see them do this but yes, I assume they 1st welded a support panel to the end of the cut fleetside (left) and then brought the patch panel in. So there is an overlaping panel behind. The other key thing they did is not cut or mess with the area where the tail gate bolts into the bed. So as not to compromise the support strength.
Here is a better shot. The center area has been hammered lower, they will grind down the welds and use a thin layer of filler to level it.... |
