Since the module has it's own bucket you don't need an EFI tank. Sure you can find non EFI 20 gal for pretty cheap.

I would love to do that! The 01 pump assy is really deep b/c the 01 tank is really deep, it has a spring mechanism on it that makes it go to the bottom of the tank.

If I can find more details on how to do that, it is exactly what I will do. It is the best way to go about it in my opinion.

Tried to seperate the 01 donors wiring a little. Makie it a little easier to manuever and run. Seperated into engine wiring, fuse panel wiring, and interior wiring.

So you are saying I need a non baffled tank instead of the baffled 87 tank I have now?

I maybe could try and track down a 20 gal tank or just maybe buy a new one.

Also the artic blaze thread guy is using a blazer tank, which has the hole for the pump assy like in the middle.

These damn side saddle tank has the hole for pump assy near the edge of the hump..

I think it may still work though... Not sure.

You can still use your current tank. Just saw you were thinking about moving up to a 20 gal tank and figured if you went this route you don't need a baffled tank. It being in the middle isn't a big deal, ideally you want it mounted in the deepest part of the tank which is where I believe the current sending unit in the tank is mounted. If you are worried about the module being too tall, from what I can tell a majority of modern GM vehicles have roughly the same design for the fuel modules with varying heights. If you have a pick and pull need by you could find one closer to your current tanks height.

Yes I eventually want to go to a 20 gal tank.

Thats a great idea about pull a part. Unfortunately, I don't have any that are close by. Could go to Azone or Advanced and just get them to show me a crap ton of the ones they have in stock.

Not sure what vehicles to check though? Maybe a van or impala or something?

I'll work on locating one. I could probably find a decent used one that isn't baffled for pretty cheap. It is trying to find a baffled one that is difficult.

I suppose you could have them show different ones that they have then see if a junkyard or craigslist has one. From what I've seen, you want the module to be about an inch (uncompressed) taller than the tank. Then the springs when compressed make sure it doesn't move.

The most popular module I'm seeing used in swaps is the 99-02 LS1 F-body module. Also the Pontiac modules are popular, grand prix, GTO, etc..

Possible to modify the "bucket"? Change or cut springs?

Module? Are you talking abou the fuel pump assembly?

Very nice!! Thanks! Only difference is he extended and I may need to shorten...

Although without the baffles in the tank I may not need to shorten too much...

No problem, I'm looking at doing the same thing to the dual tanks in my K30 for a 8.1 swap when I get back so I had been looking around for info. It'll be cool to see how it works out for you.

My 87s trans is getting ready to say bye bye tomorrow.. Gonna swap it for something special but don't want to jinx it!

700R4 is gone! Traded it for this:









Details:
2002 6.0 LQ4 167k miles
Came with everything minus exhaust manifolds, power steering pump & bracket, ac compressor and alternator w/ bracket.

Story goes; friend wanted to swap in brand new engine b/c original one had very low oil pressure. Bouncing from 0-20 psi at idle.

Previous owner said he drove truck on the trailer, brought it home, drove it off trailer, swapped engines and he got to keep the old one. Said he was gonna stroke it for his race truck. Low oil pressure but only had valve chatter no knocking.

I checked oil after I got it unloaded and is about 2-2.5 qts low. Gonna let this one sit on my stand and maybe rebuild it once I sell my 350 TBI. Who knows.

Still planning to swap the 4.8 into my 87, mostly b/c I know it ran decent right before I pulled it.

I am not sure if I want to chance it.. Hate for no oil pressure to cause some deep grooves in the block. I wish I could just do that and a new oil pump and roll out though!! We will see when I tear into it a little farther.

Got it set down tonight to see if I need to order a set of f-body manifolds. I got a friend who can ship me some this week for $125. 01-02 egr less ones w/ flanges. Not sure if that's a great deal or not but cheaper than I have seen elsewhere.



















DS looks tight, like if I move it at all may hit/rub.

So should I jump on the set of fbody manifolds or what? I do see now what people were talking about the truck manifolds pointing in odd directions.

Also not 100% sure I am in the location at which the engine is staying. I can move it around thanks to the dirty dingos but I don't have trans attached so not sure if this is the final resting place or not.

I also picked up a 20 gal carb tank to try and play with. I want to get the 01 fuel pump assy in it, if possible.

Great job on your build so far. I'm about to start a similar project on my '89 K5 and even have a complete donor ('00 Yukon) like you do lol. I want to see how you wind up getting the newer sending unit mounted in the older tank since I'm going to have to do the same thing with mine to carry over all of the evap stuff for the eventual smog ref inspection I'll have to do... Keep up the good work
