Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

I talk about this same debate all the time at work. I work on old cars, and build engines so I've always got customers asking me Edelbrock or Holley? I usually don't like to debate it, because SO much of the time it is always about one persons experiences with one particular carburetor. It seems like whichever one someone had a good experience with early on is what they swear by from then on.

I've worked on and built cars and trucks with all 3, Ededlbrock Q-jets and Holleys. I've had good experiences, and bad with all of them. Anymore for me, it depends on the engine it's going on. For my stock 350 in my 71 pickup, the Stock rebuilt Q-jet is the only answer. For my Nova (302 chevy, huge solid roller, motown heads, 3800 converter, 4.10s) the Holley 650 double pumper seems to a good job of wasting fuel, lol. I like Edelbrocks as well, there new thunder avs series are pretty painless to put on and get dialed in. Sort of like the Holley street avengers, more of a bolt and go than carbs used to be.

Overall, I like all 3 choices, depending on what they might go on.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Well, for a stock engine yeah a Holley might get worse fuel mileage than a Q-jet with it's tiny primary's.

BUT... When your going for all out power on a drag racing style big block, you don't use a Q jet.

that's why so many companies emulate the Holley 4150 double pumper. BG/demon, Quick fuel, Willy's, Gaerte engines, Keith Dorton, ALL offer worked over Holley type carbs. So for the High performance and Racing side, Holley wins hands down.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

I've now officially had all the major brands of carbs. Demon no problems. Holley no problems. Edelbrock performer piece of cheap JUNK poor quality waste of time. Quadrajet no problems and better mileage. I would never replace a quadrajet unless I was building a performance motor. For anything stock, replacing your quadrajet is a mistake. My 78 c10 has always had the stock carb and its NEVER had an issue ever. Runs awesome even in the winter.

Here we go again....................

Why not start a poll of which polymer frame handgun is better and see if it has the same conclusion.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

Problem with the polymer frame is that when the gun runs out of ammo, the "pistol whip" is not as effective. The police around here typically need more than 15 rounds to hit anything once.

Glocks no doubt have a huge following but I can't stand that trigger. I have a S&W P-99 in .40 cal that I'm pretty happy with.

Since we are off topic yes the S&W is a great gun which I'd own over the Glock any day of the week.

Now back to the carbs!

Some have responded saying they would go a different route and not use the Quadrajet for performance useage. They have been and can be tuned to performance quiet well actually. Thats the choice I'm going with with my roller SBC.

It would be another one with no ending though. Another personal pref. If an ax wielding murderer is chasing me and the only gun in the drawer is a Glock, I will have no problem putting all rounds on target.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

I prefer a Q-jet for it's originality and I have had great luck rebuilding them.

The Edelbrock carb I had was great out of the box and was super easy to tune. If originality was not a concern that is my choice.

Had 3 holleys and none of them ran right. Changing float level was a PITA.

Love edelbrock for bolt and go but the q-jet makes more sense for a DD great idle good gas mileage reliable, also if you need rebuilding the carb shop in Ontario ca is the place to go. the work EFFING magic and a reasonable price

Quadrajet all the way!! Better on fuel because smaller primaries as long as you keep your foot out of it! Wicked nasty sound when you open up the secondary's .... A motor is just a pump, more air and fuel you give it, more power that comes out!
