Worked on the hood some this weekend. Still a work in progress. Have to do some more adjusting to get it right. I’m getting closer!

Re: My 56 build
Also spent some time getting into the harness on my new engine. I plan on doing the stand alone harness myself. Just need to order the fuse/relay box. The wires running up over the dipstick is the transfer case part of the harness. Everything else seems straight forward.

Re: My 56 build
I'm interested to see how you do the harness and the 2WD conversion. I haven't done hardly any research on the 2WD conversion, but the first option I found was a new tailpiece and a couple small parts for like $600 which seems excessive.
What are you using for references for the harness rework? I haven't been successful in finding a source like LT1swap for the Gen V.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vRWWpSL5PlM As far as the harness, I’m doing research. Most of it is left alone. I’ve found wiring diagrams and ecu pin outs. As far as sensors, I only need to delete the downstream O2 sensors. Otherwise buy a fuse/relay box and run all hots to the proper fuse. Isolate and lengthen OBD2 and gas pedal wires. I’ll need 2 relays, one for the ignition and one for the fuel pump. I’m just going to use a walbro(spelling?) 255 pump and the C6 filter/regulator setup. We’ll see, I’ll keep you updated

I'm learning that a lot of these Gen V swap parts are so expensive just out of a lack of support or product offerings so companies are making fat profits on their parts. With a little research, all the challenges that come with Gen V swaps don't seem to be big issues at all. High pressure/PWM fuel supply, 2WD conversion, vacuum pump, A/C compressor mounting, power steering, harness rework.

Re: My 56 build
WOW--What incredible work...
I did my first harness this year and the one thing I would do different is using a pre-made pigtail. I would be happier with this fusebox than the one i made and wired myself. There are cheaper alternatives on ebay and other sources https://www.michiganmotorsports.com/...ess-obd2-port/ Also the sideways pictures can be solved by opening the picture in "photos" for windows or something similar. It will probably show the correct side up, then just crop off the slightest edge of the photo and save it, then re-upload it. All of my pictures off my iphone do it. |

Right now I’m leaning towards AC Bristol princess blue with a pearl white roof n engine compartment. But who knows... I’ve changed my mind three times since I’ve started
Here’s a link to an AC Bristol in that color. It changes from blue to silver depending on the light https://www.mecum.com/lots/CA0819-38...stol-roadster/

Re: My 56 build
Fixed the gap on drivers door... still have the passenger side to do. Been trying to figure out what to do about the front bumper. First two pictures are an original bumper. Last two are from an old bumper that also came with truck. I chopped it down, but not sure I like it? Not really excited about the V shape. Looking for input on what everyone thinks. If I go with the narrower one I’m going to build a front roll pan to fill in the area between the fenders.

Re: My 56 build
Also fixed my front running/blinkers...again. I was going to use Jeep style headlights with the blinker being part of the headlight. Then saw barnfind62’s 1950 Pontiac taillights and jumped on that ship... now the originals just flow with those taillights. So I frenched them in like the taillights. I threw a picture of the taillights at the end... you can see the theme!
Quick question... anyone know how thick the rubber bumpers are that go on the side of the hood? I’m gaping the hood next.

Re: My 56 build
That about the thickness of a paint stick. That’s what I used to do the gaps. What did you use to French in the front park light?

I just made them from 14 gauge. I found this hole cutting jig on another post. Helps cut perfect circles.

Re: My 56 build
On your front bumper feedback: I intend on flipping my stock one upside down but the top of it needs to be level with that body line. Can't do it with just flipping the stock brackets as it would sit too low and look goofy. When getting it up high enough you would have to angle the end of the frame back for clearance for the "new" bottom portion. Chip Foose put 1st gen Camaro bumpers on his "Z10" both front and rear. Those are thin and V shaped - check it out.

Re: My 56 build
Nice work! Love the frenched lights...did them on mine as well. I think the Foose 1st gen idea would be great on yours! I flipped mine but I had to make brackets anyway because of the new frame. Keep up the great work!!!
