Re: 56 shop truck build

Thanks. I actually have a picture of your truck as my wall paper at work just for motivation. It's one of the only ones I've seen with the same suspension drop and has the old vibe I'm looking to get out of mine

Re: 56 shop truck build

My spam filter just kicked this out because it has the words mount, fatter and rubbing in the same sentence. NSA is probably taking a look at it too...

Re: 56 shop truck build

NSA? Sex offenders? zombies? this is starting to sound like an AMC show ahahhaha

Just a quick update. Tomorrow is my day off so it'll consist of all the final touches so I can start this thing up. I'd like to fire this new engine and break in the cam on Saturday. We have a car show to attend on Sunday so I need to get through the list of things to be finished between Friday and Saturday morning. We all know that the first time you start an engine, things don't always go as planned

Re: 56 shop truck build

Dubie, make sure you video the first crackle coming out of your pipes. The day I got mine going all I wanted to do was hear it run, probably started it 4-5 times, and way to late at night. Had to settle for the video once the wife slapped me stupid!

Best of luck bro. Are you planning to drive the truck to the car show on Sunday?

Re: 56 shop truck build

Nope. It's an hour long drive to get there and this thing will have far to many bugs to work out along the way. My goal is to drive it in our Canada Day Parade on July 1 along side other members of our car club.

Re: 56 shop truck build

well the engine start didn't happen. We had a couple things that slowed our progress down on the weekend but we're close. Just need to hook up the throttle linkage, bolt up the exhaust manifolds and install the plugs and wires. Then all that's left is hook up the battery cables and turn the key. We have a car club meeting at my shop on Thursday night so we're aiming to fire it while the guys are there

I will be starting mine soon too. Reminded me of when I stated my 64 Chevelle with the new 355 engine. Got it running and backed out of the shop on to the street. Shifted into low and gave it some gas, it bogged so I gave it some more. Engine came to life, fried the back tires until I could get out of the throttle...all at 1AM. Wife comes out hollering, neighbors lights are coming on, and I am trying to sneak back into the shop....Fun stuff!

Re: 56 shop truck build

last night I got everything done that I set out to do. The exhaust manifolds are on, the throttle linkage is hooked up and the plugs are in. I never ran the plug wires last night but I'll get that done along with the rest of the wiring tonight. My throttle linkage still needs a bit of work. Is anyone using the stock pedal and rod style linkage on a small block? I'm thinking I might need to switch up the pedal assembly and use a cable operated one. If you're using the original rod link, could you post a picture of it?

Re: 56 shop truck build

Last night was spent checking and re-checking some wiring. I wanted to make sure everything was working properly. The head lights gave me a little trouble but I found it was all because of a bad ground. SO now all the head lights, park lights, signals, hazard, dash lights as well as the blower motor all work as they should. So last night was a HUGE win for me seeing how it was the first time I'd ever done wiring.

That's great you got the wiring all figured out and working.
