I'm probably going to end up bending and welding again if I can't find someway easier soon. I've got one more long weekend to work on it and then I'm off to Mexico for a week or so. I'd like to get it done before that.

Mine are 7" and your welcome to come get some if you like. Can cut out an inch and squeeze it back together, weld it up. pm me if you wanna set up a time.

Well, vacation is over and I got stuff caught up around the house so I finally got back out and worked on my Sanity for a couple of days. I've got the floors done. I finished a little touch up on the rockers and then realized I still had a place to patch on the passenger side at the corner of the trans hump and floor. I fabbed up a couple of patches and welded them in and then decided I needed to patch a little more so I cut one more patch and got that welded in. I think it turned out pretty good. I'm ready to get this cab flipped on its back and start the clean up. I've also been working on my blast cabinet. I'll show some pics of it soon.

Thanks alot you guys. I really appreciated the compliments. I sit and stare at this stuff for so long I don't know if it's okay or not. I have a hard time knowing when to stop fussing and go on.
As soon as the weather improves a little I'll get some epoxy sprayed on. I've got to get my son over here with some of his friends to tip the cab on its back. Nothing like some 20 something muscle for that sort of thing since I haven't broke down and got a cherry picker yet. I'm going to do some more on the frame next. I've got to finish up the brakes and run some brake lines and ebrake cables next and pick up a power steering conversion kit from the Capt. and get my steering gear installed. With the warm weather, I hope to get the bottom of the cab cleaned up and coated and the firewall work finished. Then I can set the cab back on the frame.

Didn't get much done on Sanity but I bought something today. A completed SBC serpentine belt set up with all the brackets, pulleys, alternator, water pump, power steering pump, clutch fan, AC compressor, and all the nuts and bolts for $100.

Sorry I haven't updated lately, I've had a lot going on at work. The donor air box on mine lined right up with no problems. I got it to where it looked right and put down a couple of spot welds. I checked the alignment with the fender extension and it aligned right up so I finished tacking it in.


Even though I haven't posted in a while, I have been getting some things done. After all the floor patching I decided I needed to step away from the metal work for a bit and do something mechanical. I decided to get the brakes finished up and get my brake lines ran and some other misc. stuff.
I realized after I had my new 5 lug axles made up that I had had them made with the center hub the same as the 6 lug axles instead of the smaller diameter of the 5 lug axles. Rookie mistake: dohh: So I took them back out and had the machine shop turn them down. The next thing is to get the brake lines ordered and installed and get the front calipers, etc. installed. And also finish up the emergency cables as far as I can with the body off. Luckily, the cables are all in excellent condition so I'm bead blasting them and WD40ing them to freshen them up. I just slipped the drums on to check them out. I still need to clean the packing stuff off of them and then paint them.

I also got my bead blast cabinet finished and I've been blasting the crap out of a lot of small parts laying around and also the emergency brake hardware to do my brakes.

Thanks man. This cabinet has become my favorite toy. It's going to save a ton of time cleaning up small parts for resto.

You're welcome anytime. I'd like to make it down your way one of these days and check out Bompenstein.


The front brakes are on and Spike gives his approval. I took the rotors back off and painted them and the calipers with Duplicolor caliper paint and then installed it all. I also got my brake lines ordered from Fine-Lines.

I've been thinking about getting a cherry picker from Harbor Freight for some time but I was waiting for one of their killer coupons and I just wasn't to the point of needing one yet. Well, things have changed. I picked up the coupon for the one ton model for $99 the other day and the next thing I knew I was standing in the garage assembling it. So once it was assembled I needed to lift something, Right?
So I decided I give a try at getting my cab onto it's back. It took me a while to get it done but here it is. The most pleasant surprise is the condition of the cab bottom. No undercoating! None! The pics are of the cab bottom before and after less than an hour with a scotch brite and my shop vac cleaning the dirt off. This is going to be much easier than I had ever imagined to get cleaned up and coated. That original primer on the bottom is some tough stuff!

Yeah, that's been my plan. I'll get the bottom all sealed up then I can get the cab mounted and start fitting and aligning the rest of the body parts. While I've got it on its back I'll probably prep the ceiling of the cab also to save myself awkward working positions as much as possible.

Yes. I will shoot some epoxy primer first. I'm still deciding whether to go with Rhino liner or Eastwood has a new product that sounds good too.
